    Ziggy's 40b Planted Journey

Hey Ziggy! Haven't been on AA in quite a while, but just moved into a new place and will be starting up a tank or two soon. I've always loved following your builds, keep it up man, it's looking great! :D

What type of lighting for a deep tank?

Exactly. Although who is to say that the loop couldn't be on the outside of the tank, around the bottom? They wouldn't be too hard to conceal...

    Floor to ceiling cylindrical tank

Thank you! These were the kinds of questions that I hoped would be asked. This is, in its entirety, a theoretical tank. I was wondering if it would be plausible, and getting ideas. That could be REALLY cool, actually! I like this, and it definitely eliminates some of the problems of the full...

Going from FOWLR to my first reef tank? lots of questions!

I did a search, and the only info I found on this was: "since they are not waterproof, they should be at least 10" off the top of the water". That does seem a bit high, but then again, there would be less salt creep to clean up. I think you should just start with them a few inches off the top of...

Going from FOWLR to my first reef tank? lots of questions!

Probably at least 10" above the water.

What type of lighting for a deep tank?

That seems like the general consensus at this point. I was just wondering how far down the light goes down using different kinds of lights?

    Floor to ceiling cylindrical tank

I am thinking about the Super Reef Octopus 8000 with a Bubble Blaster 10000 pump.

Tap water and conditioner for start cycle???

Wow. That's ridiculous! Do you know the manufacturer of the tank yet?

    Refugium and protein skimmer question

For the fuge, you would put a light over it, and some rock, and some chaeto algae.

What type of lighting for a deep tank?

Is there anything that could give good lighting down 7-8 feet? I have a huge cylindrical tank in the planning (http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f11/floor-to-ceiling-cylindrical-tank-269478.html) and I am wondering how to light this sucker! LED's with optics, or MH?

Going from FOWLR to my first reef tank? lots of questions!

Two Little Fishies ReVive Coral Cleaner 16.8oz Basically, the idea is to dip them in something like this to help acclimate them to your tank. Those are some pretty good LED's! That is going to be REALLY powerful in your tank. I would say about 50-75% power? It all depends on your corals...

    Newbie needing help

Yes, as long as you have a skimmer and live rock, and you stay on top of your water changes, you don't really need a filter.

    Refugium and protein skimmer question

The pods will be fine. Sure, not ALL of them will make it through the pump, but most will. Generally you want the fuge to be right after the protein skimmer, as stated above, because the skimmer has this bad habit of sucking pods out of the water, so you want to give them the best chance of...

    Floor to ceiling cylindrical tank

I was going to have a column of rocks running up the center of the cylinders, and they would be slightly flared out at the bottom, so it would end up looking kind of like a really tall, skinny cone of rocks. That way I can hide the plumbing and whatnot in the center of the tank!

    Floor to ceiling cylindrical tank

I am aware of the distortion, I just think that it is a small price to pay for such a beautiful piece of nature, and a hex tank would not go well with the design of the house. These two cylinders are going to appear to be holding up the balcony overlooking the living room, as if they are a...

    Floor to ceiling cylindrical tank

That seems to be the general concensus on the lighting. The main lighting will be some sort of DIY LED light's with some good optics to throw the light as far down as I can. The design is going to be a "cylinder" of rockwork and coral in the center, which will hide the piping, closed loop flow...

    Floor to ceiling cylindrical tank

Yeah, I am still on the wall about the glass or acrylic. The lighting is going to be extremely interesting. I was thinking about going with another "ring" of lights around the midsection of the tank, hidden in the rockwork, but that isn't feasable because anything that I contain them in would...

    Floor to ceiling cylindrical tank

There is going to be a fish room above the tanks on the second floor, with access to the tanks from above The glass thickness I was thinking maybe 1/2" - 1" tempered glass. I'm not really worried about exactly how many gallons, I just know it will be a LOT! :D I was thinking about the ring of...

    Floor to ceiling cylindrical tank

So I've had this idea for quite some time now! I am remodeling the house next year, making it super contemporary , so this is definitely something that has a good chance of happening. The idea is two large cylindrical tanks next to each other, one SW and the other FW. but for now, we'll...
