Yes, I tried a different bulb. Same thing. It shuts off after 5 min. The ballast is real hot, and I can smell burning. I saw the replacement ones at HD but I need to check the correct voltage. The ones I saw at HD were 3 wires, one was ground so I need to match those up as well.

If a fluorescent lighting assembly turns off, is there a fix to this? I have a large brick-like device (assuming its an inline ballast) gets really hot and causes the light to go off. Can this be replaced or do I need a new kit?

Well, that was amusing. A little too powerful, I downgraded to a 1100GPH. This should work good. Old faithful was pretty much right! I think I need some of that waterfall foam stuff, does that actually work??

I raised it to 1.021 but the eel was dead this morning. That's it no more fish from PETCO!

The eel is about 13-14 inches. PH around 8.2, Ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate around 40. I thought I read that lower SG will prevent ich (can eels get ich??). I am slowly raising the SG. What about feeding, what is/is not recommeded? Thanks.

Should the SG for a snowflake eel be around 1.021-1.025 or should it be lower? I had it lower and recently raised it to around 1.019. Before it was raised he was behaving strangely...looked like he wasnt breathing. Is normal behavior for their mouthes to open and close?
