    MACNA XVIII Houston Tx 2006

If there are enogh AA folks coming who are interested, I can put together a special outing. We have some great attractions near the conference hotel. We could take a trip to The Downtown Aquarium Restaurant or even take in a ball game - the Astros are playing the St. Louis that weekend.

    ro/di initial investment for beginner?

I bought my water at Wal-mart for the longest time and that worked OK. However, life became much easier once I got my RO/DI. If you have the space, it's worth the minor expense.

33g reef tank pic. Home made rock after 8 months.

Do a search for "agrocrete." It's basically a way to make porous manmade rocks with concrete. Over time, it will become "live" with bacteria. It has its pros and cons.

    Who else keeps nano tanks?

I love seeing pictures of the small tanks. They are so deceptive. You think you are looking at a large tank and then read it's a nano or pico. If the scale is right, and the photo quality is good, you cant tell the size of the tank without being told.

    Suggestion

Hey all, I've been busy with my local reef club for awhile so I have not been around as much. Long story short, after a pretty good flooding of my living room, I decided to sell my 75 gallon. :bawl: The good news is my wife is happy and our new wood floors should look beautiful. 8) Of...

Help me improve flow for sps - lots of questions?

Update: I ordered two of the Seio 1500's. This, along with my filter return and some combination of my existing maxi-jets should provide enough flow for an sps tank.

Help me improve flow for sps - lots of questions?

OK, I've got my new lights and would now like to start working to improve my flow before I get too far into sps. Here's what I currently have on my 75 gallon (48.5x18.5x21): 3 maxi-jet 1200's, 1 maxi-jet 900. Two pumps on each end pointing diagonally toward the center. Budget $150 or so What...

    Coral selection / Lighting reqs

I'd wait awhile before adding the lps's (brain, torch, bubble) and the clams or anemone. Make sure you do a lot of research before adding any anemone's - they come with their own set of problems. Otherwise it's looks like a good list. Make sure to give everything enough room to grow without...

Yeah, or worse, a fried cat if they perched on top of the pendant and brough it down! :microwave:

It's coming....Metal Halides Fixture Question about Corals

Yes and no. It's greater intensity than pc's for the actinic blue, but less intensity in the lower kelvin range than say 10k lamps. It really is a give and take and a lot of it has to do with personal preference and what your actual lighting needs are. Like I said, it looks like a great...

    Coral selection / Lighting reqs

Oh yeah, if you can use retros, you'll definately be able to save some money. I don't think you can get retro's in DE's though; but I could be wrong.

    Coral selection / Lighting reqs

250's wouldn't quite be overkill, but with a 17" depth, you would do really well with 150's - especially DE's. Plus you'll have less heat to deal with and a lower electric bill.

It's coming....Metal Halides Fixture Question about Corals

I'm sure it's a great system and it'll keep everything healthy; just may be slow growth - nothing wrong with that. You just have to realize that different kelvin ratings have different properties; which is why there as so many choices. When you choose one end of the range over another you...
