    Python malfunctions

UGH, My Python must have reached its self destruct date  Last weeks water change the on/off valve split in half(nicely hosed the floor down), so I bought a new one. This week a fitting at both end (looks like the same part) split. Water that runs through it is always 80degrees, and I...

    Malawi mix in my 120.

Here is what I ended up with in my 120 gal, the OB Peacocks were used to cycle the tank, don't plan on them staying in this tank long. Not sure I am happy with the Maylandia lombardoi the LFS sold me, but they are a 2 hour drive so they will stay for a while. 2 Cyrtocara moorii (blue dolphin...

    Stand height

I'd like an opinion from others, I am about to build a second stand for my 33 gal tank to match the one the 120 gal is on. The 33 gal is 18 inches high and the 120 gal is 26 inches high, I am trying to decide if it would look better to have the tank bottoms in line or the tank tops in line.

    DIY hood question

Just completing assembling the plywood hood for my 120 gal, and I am a bit concerned about the weight of the thing. It is 61l*18w*9h split in the center with the piano hinge. into 2 61*9*9 pieces. The light fixture is in one half of it. It contains about 79*36 of 1/2 plywood sheet, the piano...

    Loud Filters

Here is a real dufus question. My new filters especially the Emperor 400 is producing a loud humming sound as it runs, is this normal and is there any way to silence it. The Ehime 2217 canister itself is very quiet, but the spray bar is loud, this I can figure out myself, just move the spray...

    UGH another heater in trouble.

 I must have a curse on me or something. Earlier this year (labour day) I lost a tank to a stuck cheap backup heater. Today I went to place some new plants(and the hagan CO2 toy :P ) in the tank and the water seemed warmish (reached 85). The *&^* supposedly good tronic heater...

    New tank questions

Poking around the new 120 Perfecto tank I found a sticker saying Do Not DrillTempered Glass. So now for some dufus questions what exactly is tempered glass? and is having it good, bad on no difference? The warranty card is next to useless :? It claims a 20 year warranty but when you read all...

    New Tank Arrival - WhooHoo

WhooHoo christmas came early! :P I had to go to the city sooner than I planned and ended up at the lfs. Where I ended up purchasing a 120 gal instead of the 100 gal I had planned on. Same 60*18 footprint but lighter glass. The 100 was un-reinforced and made out of thick&heavy glass. Also...

    DIY 100 gal stand project

Finally got started on my 100 gal tank stand. 9.5 8 foot PT 2*4's and 120 3 inch treated no 8 screws so far. I did not plan on using PT wood but could not find any straight pieces in the normal lumber pile. This is the structural integrity portion before being covered...

    Leveling tank

ran into a bit of a problem  as usual. How to level a 100 gal when the floor is not level and uneven. With my 33 & 55 I just used shims under the wood stand, but I suspect a 100 will push anything I try use as shims into the floor. What I get for living in an old house.

    FAMA article

The September 2003 FAMA Water World article on page 18 has a suggestion near the end to try keeping a Jack Dempsey in a 10 gal tank if you have space problems. The Jack Dempsey grows to about 7 inches or so, would this not be a bit small for one? :?

    Heaters

Hi, wondering which would be preferred, to get one large 250-300 watt heater or 2 smaller 150's? This will be to heat a 75-100 gal tank.
