My First 26 Gallon Bow Front SW Tank

Hello Bawel. I know exactly where Buena Vista is. My house is about 5 - 10 minutes away from that street (depending on which route and traffic). I'm at where the 210 and 605 meet. Which part of West LA are you at? :)

Help - location of a new tank

Hello all. I have a question. The location where I intend to put my tank is in front of a window. Only the top half of the tank will come in contact with the window. Will this create any problems? My window does have blinds, which I can keep closed during the daytime. I only need it opened...

What size filter would i need?

I know there are filters that say it can filter "up to" a certain amount. For example, I have a filter in my room that reads "up to 20 gallons". I can't use it because my tank is more than 20 gallons. In your case, I would suggest looking for a filter that reads "up to 30 gallons" on the box...

New to this community - what to stock my tank with?

I was at a few LFS earlier, and saw some Tetras that I may add into my tank. If I'm looking for colorful fishes, which ones would be the better choice? At 29G, how many can I add without overcrowding? Last, can I add a combination of those mentioned above, or just 1 or the other? Thanks! :)

I might look into the Teras. They seem like a cute group.

New to this community - what to stock my tank with?

I'm looking into either Cories or Upside-Downs. I know 6 Catfishes in a 29G is very much pushing it, so I might lower the digit. I don't plan on keeping too many plants in the tank. Might throw in a snail for cleaning up purposes.

New to this community - what to stock my tank with?

Hello all. I'm new to the fish-keeping community. I just picked up a 29G tank, and was wondering what would be good to stock my tank with? I'm planning on keeping a few Catfishes (definitely no more than 6. Most likely less.) What other types can I safely stock my tank with without the...

    Ghost shrimp as tank buddies

I have a 29G tank. I am looking into getting Catfishes. Most likely no more than 4. Probably won't have too many plants in it. Will the shrimps go after the fishes?

    clean-up crew?

I just picked up a 29G tank, and was wondering what kind of clean up crew I can/should add. I'll most likely be keeping a few Catfishes. Will the Catfishes eat shrimps? Besides shrimps, what other ones can I consider? Snails? Also, at 29G, approximately how many can I keep in there safely...

    Hi. I'm in CA.

Hi all. I'm from So Cal. Looking into doing a 30G, most likely tropical. I know I definitely want a few Catfishes, but am still doing research on which ones to get and what other fishes are compatible (I'm looking into a community tank). Thanks for everyone's assistance! Happy "fishing" :)

    Common Newbie Pitfalls

I'm planning on going with the freshwater route. I don't think I have the skills to pull off a saltwater tank, at least not yet. Good thing I have a consultant I can go to (he's an ex-coworker's boyfriend). This site has also proven to be very helpful. I was going to get a tank and put a...

    Common Newbie Pitfalls

Hello all. I'm new to this hobby. I've been on here for about 2 days, digging for info before I act. I only have a 10G tank, which I found out, is quite useless. I might go for a 30G rectangular tank that I found on Craigslist. I haven't purchased anything yet, since I want to know what to...

Blue Lobster in a Community Tank

Awesome pics, Bluestman! I was thinking of doing a tank and getting 1 or 2 crawfishes/crayfishes, but have read about those guys having fishes for lunch and dinner. Have thought about getting a tank divider, but not sure if it's worth it.

    It's Been Awhile

I found a 30g tank, with hood and light, that some guy was trying to unload on Craigslist for $40 with gravel and some decor. I think I might go with that route. My next question is, are pumps/filters pricey? I saw the posts earlier with everyone saying how much they shelled out for a tank...

    It's Been Awhile

I decided to let the 10g tank go to my mom for her planting wants. Went to go to some "tank shopping" earlier tonight. I found a 16g bowfront tank at Petco for $94.99. For $98.97, I can get a 29g Tetra tank kit (with the filter, numerous liquids, food, etc.) at Wal-Mart. Both of the tanks...

    It's Been Awhile

Thanks everyone for the solid advice. Looks like this 10g can't do much. Besides Dwarf Puffers, is there anything else I can consider? Or would I be better off either upgrading now or go with another animal (a lizard or a turtle)? Thanks for everyone's help again!

    It's Been Awhile

Thanks for the advice, FishStarter89. If I have a great experience with this tank, I'll definitely be upgrading sometime down the road. Just thought that, since I got a free tank, might as well put it to use. I'm kind of skeptical with Cichlids, since I read everywhere that they are...
