    Orandas and Pleco

Thanks for the replies everyone. I've taken your advice and decided against getting a pleco, I think I'll just stick to manually removing the algae! I've never come across a bristlenose or rubberlip here, so unfortunately I won't be able to get one of those and the common ones the lfs sells are...

    Orandas and Pleco

Hi All, I'm looking for a bit of advice please. I'm thinking of getting a pleco but before I do I'd like to know if it can be kept with fancy Goldfish? I have 3 orandas and 1 calico pearlscale in a 180litre tank. There's quite a bit of algae and I thought a pleco might help with this. I have...

Well the saga continues! I arrived home tonight to find one of our orandas taking it's last breath :(. He was a lovely little guy but over the past few days had taken to hiding in an ornament and only came out at feeding time for an hour or so. A couple of weeks ago I noticed he had a raised...

Thanks jsoong. Unfortunately we lost another one this morning, what a week it has been! She was a lovely little white globe eye named Pearl, we only had her a few weeks. I was setting up to do a pwc and noticed she wasn't her usual self so I thought it best to keep an eye on her. After the...

    Help needed fast please

Well we lost our beautiful Iggy tonight :(! We're absolutely devastated & the thoughts of breaking the news to our 5 year old son in the morning is worse. I just couldn't stabilize the ammonia. I did 5 pwc today try to get it down and nothing worked! The lowest I got was 0.25. I had to leave...

    Help needed fast please

Well there I was thinking I was out of the woods! Disaster struck last night. I was waiting for a bowl of water to come up to room temp to do a pwc in the QT tank. I wandered into the kitchen to check the temp and noticed one of the moors lying on his side at the bottom of the tank. I...

Good news! All our little cuties are doing great, ich is nearly gone, just the odd spot left, also the red blood spots have cleared up too, everyone is looking healthy and happy. The moors in the QT tank are looking good too, the fungus has cleared and they're acting normal again, I'm looking...

    Help needed fast please

I checked the water parameters in the big tank a couple of hours after adding the ich med, they are- PH- 7.6 Ammonia- 0-25 (colour looked in-between the two) Nitrate- 0 Nitrite- 0 The tank will be set up 7 weeks tomorrow so I guess it still could be cycling. I'll test the water parameters again...

Hi jsoong, Thank you so much for all your help & advice, I really appreciate it, it's been very informative. The moors seem fine now (touch wood!). They're still in the QT tank but thankfully are active and eating, fungus is nearly gone and fins look much better, a major improvement so far...

    Help needed fast please

Hi All, I'm on day four of the pimafix and no change! The moors in the quarantine tank are not themselves at all. One is sitting on the gravel and the other is hovering above it, they're not really interested in food, usually they'll rush up to get it, now they're just eating it if it floats by...

    Help needed fast please

Hi All, Thanks so much for the quick replies, I really appreciate it. I've taken your advice and quarantined the moors, I put them in their old tank today, it's quite small so not really ideal but it's better than being nipped at! I filled it with the water from the large tank and replaced the...

Hi All, I really hope someone can help me help my fish. I did a 25% water change on Saturday and I did the most stupid thing...I forgot to condition the tap water! I have no idea why I didn't think of it but I'm kicking myself now. I went out for a couple of hours and when I came home I...

    Sick Black Moor

Sorry I haven't replied sooner. Both black moors now have the same problem. I think your right and they possibly are two females as a week or so ago the second moor released a white string like the first, by the time I got back with my camera it was gone again. The scales on both are still white...

    Sick Black Moor

I have taken some really bad pics of the moor, you might get the idea though. It's so hard to photograph them when they won't stay still, lol! The third one is a side view but you have to look close! I noticed a long white string coming out of the vent tonight, it could have been poop but I...

    Sick Black Moor

Hi, The patch looks smooth, like the scales have changed colour. I've checked again and it looks like there's a raised lump, white with a yellow dot but this could possibly be poop, I'll check again later! I have tried them with peas and they went down well so I'm sure he's not constipated...

    Need help Identifying fish

Hi Eleanor, I love our black moors, they're so cute, we have them a year & a half now and they come right up to the front of the tank if we put our faces up close. Our Labrador Ben hates when we talk to them, he's so jealous, lol! I'm going to buy a few more minnows because I believe they like...

    Sick Black Moor

Hiya, It's a Juwel Rio 180L tank and has only been set up nearly 3 weeks now. We haven't performed a water change yet as were not sure when we should do this with a new tank. We have 2 black moors which we've had for years and within the last 2 weeks we've introduced a hillstream loach and 2...

    Sick Black Moor

Hi All, I hope you can help. One of my black moors has just developed a white patch around his anus. It looks like the scales have turned white! We did a water test yesterday and everything is fine. He seems fine, eating swimming around, all the usual stuff. I have searched for an answer on...

    Need help Identifying fish

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I have a few plants in the tank already, that's where the loach hides. I went off today and bought another plant and a nice rock (sandstone I think), I haven't put them in yet though. I also turned the filter nozzle to the back of the tank as suggested and turned the...

Hi, Thanks for the advice. I really don't have a clue about fish keeping but I'm trying my best to keep them happy! Any advice is greatly appreciated.
