    New tank big sandstorm

Hey I just started a 55g tank with some sand that has kicked up quite a sand storm. Anyway it seems to settle to some extent but only with no powerheads or the return pump on. M Any tips or tricks to get this to settle or remove the finer particles? Also somewhat related, is there any downside...

Any purple fish instead of the dottyback? Sorry I'm so concerned with color. I have to make my girlfriend on board with the tank hahaha

Very cool fish! Would a cerub angel, fairy wrasse, 2 clowns, Shrimp goby, and dottyback be too much? I'm used to a 14g, which pretty much anything is overloading.

    Opinions on stocking list 55g

I recently got a reef ready 55g and 30g sump with a lot of equipment. I am searching for some good cheap live rock, but in the time being I want to get opinions on a stocking list. I did some research, but want opinions. I realize this can't be done until after I cycle, and it must be stocked...

    Opinions on buying used tank

I realize the downfall of the width. I was looking into both 55 and the 40 breeder because that's around the size I want. I live in a pretty small house and the width to the 55 is somewhat helpful in keeping it closer to the wall and taking up less travel room. The 6 inches I lose in the tank...

    Opinions on buying used tank

Thats what I assumed. He said they are bridgelux LEDs. My plans as of now is to mainly grow LPS and softies. Would buying this be worth it to hold me over for a while until I have the funds to either add more lights to supplement or to buy a whole new fixture? Or should I just hold off?

I know nothing about skimmers. Any information you could share about decent skimmers for a 55g would be great.

Yeah I am probably going to replace the skimmer, but I figure it would give me something to start with. I asked him about the lights. If I get a response before I meet him at 4 I will post it here. Thanks for your help!

No LR or fish or corals. Just the setup. He upgraded to a 120 or 130 or something along those lines.

I found what I think is a decent deal on craigslist and I need to know your opinions. -55g tank with overflow -30g sump -custom built stand (nothing crazy nice but it works) -protein skimmer (didnt say brand, but it looks cheap and I cant seem to identify it in comparison to others online) -2x...

    Sump questions

Thanks for the speedy response. As for the overflow I planned on drilling one hole in the middle and adding it there. For the box itself do you have any recommendation on pre made ones or should I just DIY. Also how far down from the lip is it best to drill? And with this size tank what size...

    Sump questions

I am getting back into the fish game after a while off (tank crashed during hurricane sandy.) I started out with a14g biocube to start, but now I am starting to plan a 40g breeder. I am moving shortly so I do not want to fill up a tank with water yet, but want to design the tank, the sump, and...

    Looking for octopus

So this is a long shot but I figured I could try here as many of you may have some ideas for me. I'm a photographer looking for an octopus or octopus like animal to photograph. I don't think many individuals keep them as I am assuming they are hard to care for, but does anybody know of someone...

    Lights for 5.5g

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone had any advice on lights for a 5.5 gallon. Im looking to keep softies and LPS, but if the price of lights doesnt raise too much I would be fine buying a light that could work for SPS as well. Idk whats best for such a small tank.

    Inverts for a biocube

A cleaner would work. Sexy shrimp are very small but would work as well. I had them in my 14 gal biocube for a while but I had a lot of rocks and only saw them half the time. They eventually got taken care of by a hairy crab I found as a hitch hiker :( but they are very cool shrimp as well...

    5.5 gallon sw tank?

You could get a shrimp goby and pistol shrimp pair. As for crabs I don't think anything other than hermits would work. I would say your best bet is any of the clown gobies posted above

    Dwarf seahorse tank

Hey guys I have a couple questions about starting up a dwarf seahorse tank. I did a bunch of research but just want to clarify a couple things. I read a lot of people discourage against using live rock. So I plan to avoid it. I was thinking of using a sponge filter and running it my current...
