    Sticky out in my tank

Thanks to my 2 year old, almost an entire bottle of sticky out got poured into my 20g tank. Needless to say, all my fish are dead. I had quite a few plants in there as well as some driftwood. They are currently soaking in some clean, dechlorinated water. Do you think I can still salvage the...

Can I grow plants with this light?

My husband bought me a used 30g tank and it came w/ a aquarilux 20w fluorescent bulb. I have a few plants in my other tank and want to grow some in this one too. I want to keep it a low tech set up for now, would the bulb I have be sufficient or should I get something else?

    30g stocking suggestions w/ a bully

I currently have a 14g w/ platies and a dwarf gourami. My DG is on the feisty side and will chase the male platy around. I recently got a 30g and wanted to move him into it. My thought is if he's in a bigger tank that's understocked he'll be a bit more mellow. So any suggestions on fish to...

    endlers in a 5g?

I have a 5g corner tank sitting in my garage that I wanted to set up in my daughters room for Christmas. I saw some endlers at petsmart and was wondering if those would be a suitable fish for the tank? If so, how many do you think I could get?

    splotches on tank glass?

I noticed the other day that I have 4-5 light brown splotches on my tank glass. It's kind of near the bottom near the substrate line. They scrape off. Ideas on what it is?

    14g stocking q

I currently have 6 platies in a 14g biocube. My daughter would like to get some neon tetras but IIRC those need a group of 5-6. I'm concerned it may be too much for my tank, what do you guys think? I'd also like to add some ghost shrimp - would those be able to go in my tank safely as well?

    Bully platy

I have 6 platys - 2 male, 4 female. They were getting along until a few days ago when we got some new decorations and re-arranged the layout of their tank. Now one of my guys has started picking on 2 other fish. To the point where they now basically live in hiding at the bottom of the tank...

what is going on w/ my cycle?

I'm 5 weeks into a fish in cycle. My ammonia has been almost 0 (very close to yellow) for a week and nitrites were starting to show up. Nitrates have been testing at 5 since early on. Today I tested and my ammonia was up to .5, nitrites were also .5 and my nitrates fell to 0. Any idea why my...

    Am i cycled?

Not sure what to make of my readings. Especially my nitrite - it's a little darker than the blue on the card but not quite purple either. Same with my ammonia, it's def not green but it's not the same shade of yellow on the card.

how do you figure out stocking?

I know there's the old 1in/gallon rule, stocking calculators, and I can always ask for advice here. But I'm interested in learning how to figure out appropriate stockings on my own. What sorts of things do you take in to consideration when looking at fish for your tank?

    Ammonia in tap water?

I'm doing a fish in cycle, it's been a couple weeks now. Typically my ammonia has been anywhere between .25-.5 and nitrites are 0 and nitrates are at 5. Last night, for fun I decided to test my husbands pond and our tap water. Our tap water had .25 ammonia. So I'm wondering how this effects...

I know I need to be patient....

I'm only 2 weeks into doing a fish in cycle but I'm getting sick of my parameters not changing. Every morning when I test ammonia is between .25-.5, nitrite is 0. Last week I got nitrates which was exciting but the novelty has worn off. I want to see different colors!

    Overstocking a tank

I am not planning on overstocking my tank but was wondering - what exactly happens when you overstock a tank? Does it really harm the fish or is it just more work to keep everyone happy & healthy? Is there ever a reason to intentionally overstock a tank?

    Are they acclimating or sick?

I am about a week into a fish in cycle with 3 MM platies. Have been testing water and doing water changes every day. When I test ammonia is .25-.5 Nitrites are at 0 and nitrates are at 5. Ph is 8.2-8.4. The fish don't really seem that interested in eating and I noticed yesterday that they're...

I'm about a week in my fish-in cycle. I've been testing everyday and the PH has been 8.2 and ammonia has been between .25-.5. Nititres and nitrates have been 0. Tested this morning and ammonia was .25, nitrites 0 but my PH is 8.4 and nitrates is 5. I'm confused, I thought nitrites were...

    how to start a cycle

I have a tank set up for my girls and need to get it cycled. We have a pond in our backyard - could I scoop out some water from there and add it into our tank to start the cycle or do I need to buy some ammonia? Another semi-related question - I also saw some stuff at petsmart that said if you...

    moving w/ fish

My family is moving from Virginia to New Mexico in about a month and even though my MIL offered to take our guppies I'd rather bring them w/ us. I'm thinking the drive will be take us ~4 days. What's the best way to move them so they aren't under too much stress? TIA.
