    New Skimmer

This skimmer will be replacing the red sea skimmer. It's not the best skimmer, but it was our starter equipment. It developed a leak at one of the corner seams, so I'm trying to lean towards a cylindrical (sp?) skimmer like these. I don't think the HOT-1 is rated for >50 gallons, and I'm...

    New Skimmer

I'm looking at purchasing a skimmer for our 75g. Can anyone chime in with suggestions and/or personal experiences with their equipment? Is $250 an unrealistic budget for this purchase? I know it won't be top of the line, but I'm trying to stay within a set budget. TIA. EDIT: Sorry. Due to...

    Lighting for 75g FOWLR

Now that we've upgraded, I'm beginning to have some interest in corals. What types of corals would be suitable for a beginner with the 4-65w fixture? I see terms like low or medium light, but I don't have a good handle on what is considered low or medium light. We're currently in a 75g with...

    Lunar Aqualight Lighting Schedule

We just recently upgraded to the Lunar Aqualight 4-65W + 4 LED's. Is it appropriate to keep both sets of the 10k and actinic 03's on the same schedule or should one type come on / go off before / after the other? Since our previous light fixture was a 50/50, we didn't have the option of...

A longshot I know, but is this still available out there?

    Lighting for 75g FOWLR

We currently have a Coralife 130W 50/50 with compact fluorescents, which is on the fritz. Disregarding the cost, if I upgraded to the 48" Aqualight 4-65W and fan, would there be too much light? I see that the next step up in their lights has the lunar lights (LED). Would I reap any...

    tank moved - complete success!

Congrats on the successful tank move. We just recently moved our 75g. What an ordeal! We lost our chalk basslet, but everything else has rebounded nicely.

    Moving the 75g

Well, yesterday was the day that I've been dreading since my wife and I decided to move. With my parents' help, we moved the 75g. The distance wasn't that great, but man, what an undertaking. We did unfortunately, lose our chalk basslet. RIP chalky. He was a great fish. He was a little...

We've had good luck with mysis and our flame angel. He can't get enough of the stuff. HTH.

    Tsunami damage to coral reefs

I found this article on MSNBC.com, and thought it was interesting. I also saw a thread discussing peppermint shrimps, so I thought I'd share. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6797142/

    Royal Gramma

I think having 2 dwarf angels in your 40g would be pushing it. We had a flame and a coral beauty in a 75g, but the flame was returned to the LFS. Others have had success, but I think the 40g would be a little small. We have a chalk bass that we love. He was a little tentative when he first...

    Anyone have an Angler

I thought jamal-188 had one. Maybe he'll see this and give some advice. I'm no help. Sorry.

    SS Starfish

IMO, it could be an acclimation issue. How did you acclimate? If he's in your 55g, the tank could be a little on the small side for his liking.

    bubble algae

You'll most likely want to get the bubble algae out ASAP. IIRC, the bubble will eventually burst, which will then lead to the spread of more bubble algae throughout your tank. You may be able to remove the 'bubble' by using tweezers or just your fingers. Be careful, though, as it may pop...

    cycling a salt water tank

I'm not sure about moving the plant; however, you may be able to do some water changes to reduce the ammonia. This, IIRC, will extend the cycle, but may save the clown. The best option, IMO, would be to return the clown to the LFS until the tank is fully cycled, but that may not be a viable...

What Supplies should I get for 50 Gallon Salt Water

Welcome to AA! I believe that places like Petco have 'kits' that contain a tank and the necessary supplies to supposedly get the tank up and running. Since you already have the tank, you may be able to get some kind of discount from your LFS if you buy all your miscellaneous equipment/supplies...

    cow fish died :(

I would recommend you return the mandarin to the LFS. IIRC, he should probably only be placed in a very well established tank with a hardy pod population. IMO, a 20g is too small for him. He'll wipe out your pod population in no time, and will most likely starve to death. Welcome...
