No it's not. I do understand about the things you have read, but it is really hurting the livestock. The reason for cycling is to get the tank ready for livestock. I made the same mistake when I went from freshwater to saltwater.

I would worry why it's a third the price. I'm guessing it's not near the same quality. With shipping it's not much more to get the real one that you know works. Edit: It's not one third the price from the link posted above.

Wire it with two 110 plugs???? That is how I power my house from my generator when it's needed.

From what I know you can't even plug it into a 110. have you rewired it?

Looks like what I just set up. I also added a 3gal holding tank. I have a 1 micron filter, never have seen a .6, I'd go with it if I can find one.

I'm with the slower smaller changes. I think I would even skip a day or two with the 5%. As time goes on I would slowly increase the % of water change and the amount of time between them.

How big is large? My house also gets down to high 40's to low 50's at night in the winter. I have thought about just putting a blanket over it or running the lights at night, but I have not really had much temp change in the tank. My tank is 75gal and I run 2 200w heaters. My temp range is 78-81...

Don't forget that dry to touch does not mean it's cured! I think Krylon says full strength after 7 days (or somthing like that)

I added them they did nothing to control them. I not sure they even cared it was around. Still cool to have peppermint shrimp in the tank though.

I have a wet/dry and have had no problems with high nitrates. the tank has only been SW for about a year. Maybe I'm just lucky or it will be something I'll have to deal with in the future.
