I did a 75% pwc which dropped the levels. Now my ammonia has been sitting at 1ppm for about 3 days.

Any body have any advice? My ammonia is still not dropping (day 42).

If that was the case then wouldn't it have shown up earlier? (not 4 weeks in)

Shouldn't my ammonia be dropping because the nitrite has shown up?

Any other ideas? I've been cycling for 5 weeks now and i'm trying to be patient but I know that my ammonia should have dropped by now.

Just tested my tap water. Ammonia and nitrite are 0ppm.

Did 50% pwc today. Tested about an hour later. Ammonia is now 2ppm. Nitrites are still 1ppm. Nitrates are still 10ppm

I checked my test kit (API master kit) and it's only 6-9 months old. I have not added any ammonia since the initial dose.

Temp is 85 Used pure ammonia as source. Tank has gotten fairly cloudy as well.

Thanks mfdrookie516. I just wasn't sure if there was an average ppm that nitrites would spike at or if it's different with every tank.

Is there an average that the nitrites peak at? ie. usually peaks at 2ppm then drops? My tank has been sitting at about 1ppm nitrites for 3 days. Also, how fast does ammonia usually drop once the nitrites show up? Mine seems to be dropping VERY slowly (if at all).

I picked up a Jager heater last weekend and it has worked flawlessly so far. Temp has zero flucuation.

Do they actually tattoo them like they do with humans or is it some other process?

You could buy a tank separator. That would keep them apart yet still in one tank. You could even add another fish to the guppy side.

That's just wrong! I'm ok with altering fish for science but dying them just for appearence appeal seems wrong. Glofish becoming household fish was just a side effect of scientific studies. Hopefully my lfs still has them when my tank is done its cycle.

I started a fishless cycle 2 weeks ago (13 days) by using pure ammonia. Here's the problem, my ammonia has not dropped at all and i still have 0 nitrites! What could be causing my cycle not to happen?

I don't really want a betta. Any other suggestions?
