    I need cycling advice please!

this was from a freshwater tank. I know she had issues many years ago with some stuff that nearly killed one of her goldies. The tank sat dry for many months before I cleaned everything. Do you think it's possible something lived on? I don't want to be growing something that's going to be...

Fishless Cycling Tank - Ammonia No Longer Being Processed

That's the same thing I'm doing. My ammonia isn't getting processed quite as fast yet, but everything else sounds identical. Out of curiosity, do you have nitrates already present in your tap? I also noticed your nitrates have dropped from 20ppm, mine did that too. I'm wondering if the food...

    I need cycling advice please!

It has now been about 36 hours since the pwc. NH3 -almost 0ppm (slight green tint, but less than .25ppm) NO2 -off scale again NO3 -odd, (@24hrs) about 10-20ppm and now (@36hrs) about 5ppm ? Yesterday I also added a pinch of food flakes to help with the phosphates as suggested in other threads...

Fishless Cycling Tank - Ammonia No Longer Being Processed

kc27, so where is your cycle at now? I'm in a nearly same situation where my cycle is completely out of whack. I too had to do a pwc to remove to high nitrite and nitrate. How much fish food did you add in your "pinch" and was that just once?

    nitrate test oddity

That was the trick. For some reason the nitrate test, when the nitrates are way high, will not work properly at all! A big clue is that the water in the test tube will turn a weird orange-brown color when the first solution is put in and mixed instead of staying a bright yellow. After I had done...

    nitrate test oddity

Well, that's what I want to make sure. Since starting the cycle I have tested nitrates about 8 times before this last test, and I do the exact same process. This is the one time that things have changed, oddly, and why I tested three more times to make sure it wasn't me and why I tested the tap...

    nitrate test oddity

I tested my parameters today before doing a water change, see my other thread http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f15/i-need-cycling-advice-please-130355.html Nitrate test is now showing that I only have about 5ppm  Previously I have been at least 80ppm  What's going on? I...

    I need cycling advice please!

thanks for the replies everybody. I sure that I will be doing the water change just to help level things off to a better point. taylorodw- My other concern is the bio-fiber. The white stuff is fuzzy, like what mold can look like, and not like hard water spots. Some of the fuzz in the above...

    I need cycling advice please!

I have nitrates in the tap naturally, about 5ppm. I live in an area where there is a large agricultural presence. So they will always be there. The nitrates most likely grew in numbers because their food source (nitrites) were growing and hence their growth as well. The nitrites just haven't...

    I need cycling advice please!

Sorry this is long, but I’m really needing some advise from the cycling experts out there. Background: 29 gal tank from my sister-in-law. Her 10+ year old goldies finally gave up. The tank has been completely cleaned, and yes, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed… new decorations and substrate, both...
