Few months into PPS Pro, cyano and melting cabomba

History: 46 gal tank, heavily planted Injected CO2 with pH regulator Medium bioload 50%+ weekly water changes A few months ago, I switched from EI(or something similar) to PPS Pro. To be more accurate, EI meant I forgot to dose most days. Plants survived, but didn't flourish. Since I'm bad at...

    Help with anchor worms

I just noticed that two of my tetras seem to have anchor worms. Obviosly, I want to control it before it gets out of hand, but I'm having difficulty finding a proper treatment. Best I could find was Clout: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid= Has anyone had experience...

    Aggressive reef fish stocking (150g)

Hey guys! I'm just about to pick up a 150 gallon cube tank this weekend. The plan is to make it a reef tank, mostly LPS and softies. It's dimensions are 36x36x27. Anyway, this is my first large tank, so I would like some help with stocking. I was thinking it would be interesting to have a reef...

    55 Gallon Mangrove Paludarium

Old build thread: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f12/adeebs-crabitat-v3-135966.html Here is my (almost) two year old mangrove paludarium. The tank has a plexiglass divider in the center, with high sand on one side to create a shallows/beach area, and a deeper water area on the other side...

Help! Caulerpa and other algae completely taking over

I've been battling algae in my 28g nanocube for almost as long as I've had the tank. Long story short, it started with a little bit of grape caulerpa. I didn't know what it was, so I let it grow back then. Since, it's taken over bad plagued the entire tank. I seem to have two types of caulerpa...

    Ghost shrimp babies! W/pics

So about a year ago, I got ~4 ghost shrimp and added them to my brackish crab tank. They made and excellent clean up crew, and I pretty much left them alone to do their thing since. I recently remembered that I hadn't seen then in a while, so I went to take a look, and this is what u found: the...

Wanted: Ghost crab (from someone living near the coast)

I was wondering if someone living on the atlantic coast(or wherever) would be willing to ship me a ghost crab (Ocypode quadrata) or two. They're quite numerous on beaches, but I have never seen them for sale anywhere. Anyway, if someone would be willing, that would be awesome. I'd pay shipping...

Magnum 350 canister filling with air

So I have this magnum 350 canister filter that used to be on another tank. I took it out, cleaned it, and set it up on a different tank that needed more filtration. The tank sits on the floor at the same level as the canister. I fill the canister body with water, burp out all the air, and start...

    Possible 125 gallon build! Suggestions?

So I found a 125 gallon tank on CL for $50, which I might be picking up this week. It's cheap because it needs resealing and a stand. I might get lazy and it into a giant hermit crab tank instead of resealing. But assuming I don't, what should I put in it? I'm super excited, since my biggest so...

    RCS behavior

When I first acclimated my RCS, and for a day after, they were constantly swimming around and picking at the gravel. Now, they seem much calmer, sitting in one place. Just wondering if that's normal behavior for RCS when being introduced. How active are RCS once established? --adeeb

    Hitchhiker clam

I've had this hitchhiker clam for a year. Im surprised it's survived for so long, being a filter feeder in a nano. Anyone know what species it might be? --Adeeb

    Chemistry experiment!

Well, I had bottles of seachm acid buffer, alkaline buffer, and equillibrium sitting around from ages ago. So I thought I'd put them to use in my to be RCS tank. Usually, messing with RO water would be a pain, but I figured in a small tank it won't be much of a problem. Anyway, with these three...

    Adeeb's rimless planted 10g

So I've been meaning to do this for a while, and finally got around to it. I'm aiming for a simple and sleek 10 gallon, without all the clutter. The tanks not a true rimless, I just took the rim off a standard 10g. I've ordered Eco complete substrate, and a finnex 26W clip on light. AC10 and a...

Never seen my BN pleco eat

Title says it all. My BN pleco is almost a year old, and I've never actually seen him eat. I drop in algae wafers and zucchini slices, and they're always gone by morning. Thing is, I don't know if he's eating, or if he's getting enough I know the other fish eat them too, so he might have some...

    Interesting phenomenon in filter pad

I was in the cleaning mood today, and decided to clean out the sponges in my AC70 while doing a water change. I don't clean them very often, so quite a bit of mulm collects there. When I took the sponges out, they didn't feel spongy, but quite solid. They were also almost completely black. I...

    Giving up on GBRs

Well this was the third time I've tried to keep a GBR. He'd been doing great for a month, eating well and coloring up. I fed him just yesterday, and there was no abnormal behavior. Come home today and he's dead. Same as the previous two. I guess GBRs and my water just aren't meant to be.... --Adeeb

    Pairing angelfish

I haven't done this before, so just checking. I want a pair of angelfish in my 46gal, but those are rather hard to find here... So, I'm thinking of getting 4-6 juvies, waiting for a pair, and giving the rest to an LFS. How does that sound? --Adeeb

    29g Vampire Crab build thread

I've been planning this for 6 months and finally getting started. Time for vampire crabs!!! My parents are opposed to another tank as usual, so this might not go through... I'll try anyway! CO2 Question

So I finally have my CO2 regulator and my 10lbs bottle all filled up. My pH is 8.4 and the KH is 14. So that means that if I want 15ppm CO2, I should aim for a pH of 7.4? And the CO2 only runs while the lights are on I assume. So will the pH rise back up in the night and cause swings? --Adeeb
