    Süßwassertang

Just picked up some of this uncommon plant at a local auction, and am wondering if anyone here has had any personal experience with it.

    Betta Spa?

OK, its not hardware or equipment, but we have no 'fluids/chemicals' forum. :P So my question is...has anyone used "Atison's Betta Spa" additive, and how did they find it to be? I have ordered a couple of bottles to give it a try, but am interested in the experience of others as well.

    Aquarium Fish CD

I have a number of these, new and sealed. They are a good beginner's guide to fish, and have lots of photos, etc. They are a couple of years old, but still current. If you are interested, they are $5 each, plus shipping (likely $7 to anywhere in the US and most places worldwide)...

Vapona No Pest Strips....a Dire Warning

Well, summer is here and with it the bugs...each year many people keep those bugs at bay in their homes using hanging "No Pest" strips by Vapona. These strips work by a steady release of dichlorvos into the air....this chemical poison has the unfortunate habit of binding to water...and is toxic...

    Interesting snail article

Found this whilst searching for something related....I was unaware that giant ramshorn snails were illegal to own in Texas (this areticle has some good photos, too): http://www.cdfa.ca.gov/phpps/ppd/entomology/Snails/Applesnailidentification2.pdf

    New Newts

Thanks to a local chap, I am now the proud owner of a pair of bouncing juvenile Spanish ribbed newts, which are happily settling in their new heavily-planted 10 gallon tank. Hopefully I will have some pics soon, but here are some pics (not mine, obviously) to tide you over: What they look like...

    Snails, baby!

I was feeding the giant African land snails this evening and discovered about 8 white-ivory eggs (about the size of large jellybeans) buried in the substrate....should be interesting to see them hatch, as the hatchlings are surprisingly large.

    I love my work...

Aside from my real job, I help my friend out at his aquarium shop/wholesale business a couple-three times each week, and tonight, after delivering fish to a bunch of shops, I got to stop by the airport and pick-up and unpack our most recent order of Asian arowanas...some super nice AA grade...

    My quest is over.

Some of you likely know that I collect vintage aquarium stuff. There is a particular item that I have been chasing for a few years now, and after being seriously outbidded on eBay a couple of times , and sniped once in the past, I have finally laid my hands on one of the holy grails of 60's...

    Somewhat Forgotten, Underappreciated Aquarium Fishes

This post marks the beginning of a list of what I feel are somewhat forgotten (although they may have, in past decades, been popular) and underappreciated aquarium fishes that have fallen from regular mention in mainstream aquarist media and are rarely seen in shops anymore. Although I am...

    Snakehead News

From the Philadelphia Inquirer: It's in the river: The dreaded snakehead By Sandy Bauers Inquirer Staff Writer When the dreaded snakehead fish first showed its pointy head and spiky grin at FDR Park in South Philadelphia in the summer of 2004, fisheries officials braced for the worst. Tidal...

By placing second in the overall standings of the Calgary Aquarium Society's 2005 jar show competition, she has won one of these (which she will get just as soon as I have her new address):

    I'm baaack.

As these things tend to happen, I got so busy with so much that my ability to spend almost any appreciable time online was severely curtailed...but I now find myself with a few semi-spare hours and have decided to tackle my backlog here (15,000 new messages!) and try to get myself somewhat current.

    Great Deals

This week, thanks to a few fellow aquarists, I am now (for a paltry sum of $10 total) up an AquaClear 300, AquaClear 150, and AquaClear mini....all in excellent condition (albeit used), and only the 300 is missing a lid, something I know I can easily track down for cheap. Now to find some tanks...

    Unexpected behaviour

While at the auction yesterday, I spotted a bag of three young jewel cichlids with no bids, so I snatched them up for $1...upon getting hime, I figured that the best place for them (at least for now) is in one of my tanks that houses some smaller bichirs (some senegals and a couple of smaller...
