    Tankmate for N. Leleupi

Hi, I've had a Leleupi Cichlid kept singly for a while now, he's healthy, extremely active (the most obsessive digger i've ever owned cichlid wise) in a 20 gallon long with lots of rock work and a 10x turnover rate. The only problem is when I get close to the tank he darts into his caves which...

40 Gallon Breeder on second floor?

I am considering placing a 40 gallon breeder on the second floor of my house in my bedroom, I have 2 dressers in it as of now (1 is about 3 ft high x 5ft long, the other is 5 ft high 3ft long) and my bed. The house is less than 5 years old and I would be placing the tank over floor joists (i...

    Auratus Question

I'm not too sure about the albino idea seeing that (I'm not sure if this rule applies to fish) it does have pigmentation in the eyes rather than the lack of which would result in that pinkish hue. A question I would now have for you MDF is this particular fish is almost 2 inches in length...

    Auratus Question

Oh he's a nice fish and has tons of personality I'm just trying to see if it's a hybrid or the coloration is just weaker than average. The substrate is a fine grade aragonite

    Auratus Question

A couple weeks ago i posted about a juvenile auratus that was remaining discolored when the lights were on, well i'm starting to wonder if i possibly have a hybrid due to the severely drab coloration. The water parameters are ph=8.2, Ammonia/Nitrite= 0ppm, Nitrate 10 ppm, Temp = 78F. Here is a...

from fresh to salt: cycling question

Sorry, I used gravel as a loose term, its actually a fine grade aragonite, and this is in place from the cichlids still, I would be mixing the salt in the tank itself with a powerhead without really having to remove any of the rockwork, with that being said would you still reccomend a complete...

from fresh to salt: cycling question

I am looking to convert my shelldwelling cichlid 20 gallon long to a saltwater fishonly setup for a pair of false percs, my equipment is suffiecient for sw requirements and I have the proper gravel for buffering purposes, my only question is can I take the cycled fresh water and mix salt to the...

    feeding m. auratus

after reading some of the forums about nls it seems like a good quality food, but my only concern is does the food cover the vegitative needs of the auratus? As in is the protein content suitable and not at a level that could cause bloat?

    Juvenile Auratus

I try to turn the room light on first for 10 minutes then turn the overhead on, it's not a completely gradual change but he/she still assumes the pale coloration for the day

    Juvenile Auratus

I have a juvenile Auratus Cichlid that when the lights are on becomes a fairly pale color and when the lights go out the colors return to the standard bright female/juvenile coloration. Is there any particular reason for this? The water parameters are fine. It has claimed its own little patch...

Suggestions on how to (hopefully) select a male Auratus

Hi all, my LFS only stocks small female/juvenile coloration auratus and I was wondering if any of you had suggestions on how to make an educated selection so that it is hopefully a young male? I realize this manner of selection will not be perfect and I still may end up with a female but any...

Will this dresser be ok for my 20 gallon long?

I don't currently have any fish in there, letting it run a few days to settle before I add anything, but the open and close drawer test was just a continuity test really to check for wobbles/making sure the drawers opened easily under the pressure of the tank. Thanks for the bookshelf reference...

Will this dresser be ok for my 20 gallon long?

Yea, aside from a person getting tackled directly into that dresser at high speeds, a bump wont do much at all, I checked that upon placement, and the drawers open smoothly/easily. Thank you for the input.

Will this dresser be ok for my 20 gallon long?

Hi all, this is my first post but after reading a bit it looked as though the people here were very helpful so I figured I'd throw a question out. I have a solid wood dresser that is very sturdy and I am currently using it for my 20 gallon long setup. I believe it to be completely fine but I...
