    Phillipsburg NJ

Hooray, someone shares my opinion, I was trying to be nice in case anyone actually liked that place for some odd reason. They charged me 21 bucks for a piece of driftwood yesterday (And that's with their 10% off card!)

    Its north Jersey.

    10 gallon lighting

Haha, so it seems I was thinking of going from one extreme to another (I really need to get out of that habit...) I'll look into finding a stock hood that fits 2 CFLs.

    Phillipsburg NJ

Does anyone know of some good stores in the Phillipsburg NJ area that has a good variety of aquarium plants? The only places that I know of around here are Petco and this one small shop that has been rather disappointing for plants (but OK for other stuff). Also does anyone know of anyplace in...

    10 gallon lighting

On what will be a rather densely planted 10 gallon tank, I currently have a standard 15 watt 5000K fluorescent tube. Is this enough light for high light plants (I really have no clue what plants I want but I like to keep my options as open as possible) or should I go ahead and get something like...

    More of a comeback

I joined here almost 2 years ago but then kinda dropped off the radar for more than a little while as life got a little complicated. When I first joined, I was planning to set up a rather large (or at least the plans became rather large) saltwater aquarium. That's been/going to be put on hold...

    Best substrate

Limpet; Very nice setup, you could try replacing the Anacharius with rotalia or a val of some kind. You used 4 gallons of peat (dry), correct? What is the foot print of the tank, and about how deep is the peat layer? I might try that, replacing pfs with flourite sand if I can't get hold of...

Limpet, any news on your peat mix? I think I might try to get the ADA aquasoil, it seems that it might work best for what I am trying to accomplish. The guy at the local store says he will try to in touch with ADA, but I am going to look online aswell. My backup plan I think will be flourite...

    Rotala doing something weird

I just ran the test and it came back at 5 ppm. I think that might be bad, so I did a 25% water change.

    Rotala doing something weird

Unfortunately I wasn't able to find a phosphate test, I am going to try another store tomorrow.

    Pygmy Gouramis

Yes, those are the ones im asking about.
  12. Harveyman

    Pygmy Gouramis

How many do you have? What about a small group of pygmy cories? Say 3? And maybe a few ottos?.
  13. Harveyman

    Best substrate

Someone else will have to answer that, i have no real experience with any of those except Anacharius, which would be fine.

    Best substrate

I'm not an expert by far,so someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think you would be OK with just root tabs. Anacharis I know feeds from the water column anyways. I'm only looking at fancy substrates because like I said, I like watching plants grow quickly. Edit: Isn't Spiralis non aquatic?
  15. Harveyman

    Best substrate

Normal gravel is what I have in the 29 gallon tank. But I don't have any heavy root feeders in it though. Edit: Does rotalia feed from its roots?

Have you ever seen Aquasoil sold in a store, or is it just direct from ADA?

    Pygmy Gouramis

I am thinking of setting up a 10 gallon planted tank for some pygmy gouramis and have a few questions. Are they really as hard to keep as I've heard from some places? What pH should I have, I've heard everything from neutral to crazy low. How many can safely be kept in a 10 gallon tank, the...

    Best substrate

Maybe, I'll look into it tomorrow. Thank you all very much, I'll have to do some more research on my part and digest your imput between now and whenever I'm on again.

    Best substrate

Limpet; Look forward to your results, peat moss could be useful for the pH I'm going to need.

    Best substrate

I know filter sand would work well, but again, I want something darker. I'll look at some though just to see what the consistency is and try to find a darker equivalent. What's laterite by the way? I think its some sort of clay right?
  21. Harveyman

    Best substrate

I can look at what they have in the stores around here, I might be going to the store tomorrow. But anyways, what about layering?
  22. Harveyman

    Best substrate

I really don't like sand anyways, too messy IMO. I can live with something close to black, after all form follows function (most of the time...) What about a mix/layering of flourite and eco complete (those are the two I know I can get easily). edit: But then again, I've only had experience...
  23. Harveyman

    Best substrate

Quick sort off topic question, about how deep should the substrate be, 3"-4"?
  24. Harveyman

    Best substrate

I really don't mind spending a little extra to have my plants grow faster, I enjoy pruning and watching plants change from day to day (thats why I love water sprite). I want something black though, for some reason I always thought that tanks with black substrate looked really good. If it's any...

    Rotala doing something weird

Ok, thanks. I'll let you know what the level is when I get the test kit.
