    Diatoms & hair algae

My usual nitrate reading are usually between 20 and 40 ppm. What should the nitrate levels be in a planted tank? And no I don't have a phosphate test right now but I'll try to go pick one up. Yah I figured there's always gonna be algae of some kind, just getting a little worried because some of...

    Diatoms & hair algae

Yah I do use fertilizers, I have root tabs under the root feeding plants, I was also dosing API leaf zone but read online that it may have in balance in some of the nutrients that could cause algae so I've switched to dosing excel every two days.

And when he introduced the new fish the water had nothing to break down that ammonia and potentially had a ammonia spike? Just wondering cause without any...

    betta and filter?

No it shouldn't be necessary to get a heater in there unless you find that the water gets extremely cold during the night. If not then the betta will be just fine without one :)

    betta and filter?

Oh for sure, if you have one already id hook up the filter. The betta won't have any problems with it and it'll save you tons of time cleaning out the tank. ps. nice to see you don't have the betta in a little bowl, much better in a small tank like you currently have. Good Luck!
