You are right, but a uv sterilizer is dependent on the water flow through it to determine what it will do best. If your water flow through the uv sterilizer is low (about 50-80 gph) your sterilizer will kill pathogens best, if your water flow through the uv sterilizer is medium (about 120gph)...

You have the the same kinda master plan as me, except for low stocking levels. Keeping it simple and regular water changes combined with over-filtration seems to really work. Are you using a Aquatic Life HO T5 light? Great looking tank!!!

I have been really lucky cause I have had no sickness at all. Knock on wood . I do run a uv sterilizer. Thanks for the complement! 

Not sure. My lfs says it a spotted pleco. I have 25 fish, that includes pleco. Here is a pic of him. I understand about the water requirements, it was my understanding that as long as the water chemistry does not change quickly that Convicts were fairly adaptable to most water conditions...

I clean it once a week because it keeps my nitrate level low. My aim is to keep my no3 levels under 20ppm. My tank is probably getting close to double stocked if you use the 1 inch of fish per gallon rule.
