    Swimming worm??

Thanks. I looked up fan worm and all that came up is feather dusters. This worm had a feather shaped tail fin. It was using it for propulsion, not as gills like feather dusters. I'm pretty sure it came in on some stuff I got from Florida. I'll see if I can find it again and get a picture.

Any ideas on what this is?

Ball anemone is the common name. They don't really like light.

    Hitch hiking anemone??

That is an orange ball tip anemone. Should note that they have very sticky tentacles and will eat small fish. Mostly nocturnal. Pretty cool though.

    Swimming worm??

When the lights came on this morning I peeked in to check on things and I saw something new. It was a long thin worm with a strange tail. It was clear, very thin, and about an inch & 1/2 long. It had legs and antennae on the front and small black eyes. The weirdest thing was its feather-like...

    Cheap LED solution???

Just scored a 60g hex on Craigslist! It's 29 inches tall so it will be an ultimate test for lighting. I plan to do the 50w RGB for starters. This should hopefully reach to the bottom. I may add some blues later. I'll start a build thread and add it here later for anyone that is interested. May...

    Pump wiring electrical help please

Sweet. Dose anyone know if a bilge pump can be run 24/7 or is it only meant to run for short periods?

    Pump wiring electrical help please

Can a DC 12v bilge pump be wired to AC? Through a power supply or one of those boxy plug-in thingies? (Yeah. Not an electrician) I make fake rock. I have a tank that has been running for a year with 100% fake rock and is still looking great. ...so I'm working on making aquarium equipment...

    Cheap LED solution???

So Tom (guy that started the thread) hasn't updated since last summer and his last statement was that his 72g was "in the trash". He didn't elaborate, that I could see. Did the tank crack? Was there a catastrophe? Or did the lights fail? It's a great idea, but there is not enough followup to say...

Don't know if they posted... Sorry if its a repeat. [/IMG] [/IMG]

    Overflow design help

True, but the idea behind this design is to encase these boxes with aragocrete (homemade live rock) and then be able to remove them glueing and fragging. My last aragocrete project turned out awesome, but was not removable and gluing frags under water is a pain. Here is a couple pics of my last...

    Overflow design help

I want to make self contained overflow boxes that can be removed from (or added to) the tank. It will have 4 sides and a bottom and will not attach to the tank itself. This will not lead to a sump. It will be mechanical filtration mostleh. It will have 2 submersible pumps or one with a Y for two...

    Brakish dudes!

Update: ...they eat mud skippers... They are both about 18 inches long now and live in full saltwater. They actually have interesting personalities. They swim to the front of the tank and "wag their tails" when I walk in the room. They've never attempted to bite me when I put my hand in the tank...

    Territorial Clownfish Pairing

Less than 24 hours later they are back in the display tank and are BFFs. The male is even occasionally doing the shaky shaky do me display dance for her. Now I have to buy them a nem.

    Territorial Clownfish Pairing

Thought I should post my experience in case anyone is having the trouble I did. I bought a mated pair of gold striped maroons and after a couple months the male jumped out of the tank during a water change. I didn't find him until it was too late. Sad face. I saw a sale online for these guys...

    28 g bowfront w/internal fuge/filter! *Build*

So I've had the prototype running for over 6 months now and it is very low maintenance! The biggest flaw is the multi pumps. If one pump grate clogs with detritus then one side will drain faster than the other. So the pumps have to be cleaned regularly and since I made the compartments barely...

    28 g bowfront w/internal fuge/filter! *Build*

Patience... Here are some critters... And I still have more frags in the sand to glue. Never mind the dangly in the back. It's just an airstone that I run at night. Going to put one in the sand eventually. Running a sponge and 1/2 chemi-pure in each side and that's it. Using 2 100w...

    Diatoms??

It's growing on an acrylic tank. No razors! I thought the brown algae is slimy? I have no other algae in my tank other than some intentional macros.

    Diatoms??

Brown spots growing in the corner of my nano that receives some sunlight from the window. They are not slimy and are pretty hard like coralline. Snails pass right over it without pulling any off. I'm new to this game.

Parameters are lookin good! Gonna keep testing for a week or two before I add fish. Right now it's just a few macro algae and 3 hermit crabs. ...I can't post direct photos any more. Guess I hit my limit. http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa274/Chris_Creasey/9aa3eda3.jpg...

    LED diy question

What if I mixed blue and bright white? The blue would penetrate deeper right? I read quite a few articles on lighting and I get most of it, but still a lil lost. I'm Against MH. expensive to run plus I would have to invest in a chiller and/or a bunch of fans in the hood. I don't want an open top...

    LED diy question

Has anyone tried waterproof automotive led strip lights in the reef aquarium? You can get 16 ft of it for around $20. They are super bright 5050 smd and some have an rgb chip that allows them to change colors and are dimable. Please advise....

    28 g bowfront w/internal fuge/filter! *Build*

It's almost ready to go live! The ph is about 9.5. Down from 14. I think I'm gonna drain it one last time and set it up for real tomorrow.

    28 g bowfront w/internal fuge/filter! *Build*

Google "oystercrete". I got crushed oyster shell from a feed store and mixed it with a high polymer cement. You have to work quick with this stuff cause it starts to set it 1-2 minutes. I also mixed in some aragonite and a lil epsom salt for magnesium. I was going to try to make it a lil more...

    28 g bowfront w/internal fuge/filter! *Build*

Well kinda... I lost some rock face to attach coral to, but I gain a viewing window into an entirely different world. I'm pretty happy with the amount of rock space I have. Lots of nooks n cranys to fill. Plus, since I made my rock, it's a 1 inch wall verses a 10 inch chunk of rock. Relatively...
