Either way will work. If he wants to do less work than do it as simple as possible, but if he wants it to be less risky, then he can do the extra work.
You definitely don't wanna vacuum your sand or gravel or whatever you get because you will risk stirring up the soil. Just leave all the debris on the bottom. As far as soil most people use miracle gro organic choice potting mix but any organic potting soil will work. As far as planting plants...
No you just out dirt in first and then cap it with gravel or sand (whatever you wanna use). Seriously if your thinking about doing a dirt tank go to www.fishtanktv.com there's a forum dedicated specifically to whole process.
Lighting is definitely an issue. I wouldn't leave the lights on longer than 8 hours a day and it probably wouldn't hurt to leave them on a little less than that. Another thing that could be causing algae is too many nutrients. I read that you were dosing with several different ferts and you may...
You should consider using dirt for substrate. Not only is it much cheaper than Eco complete and all of that other stuff, but it also works just as well. As for the lighting question I would go visit fishtanktv.com. Once you get to the site click on the forum link at the top and find the...
Well Dustin seems to have some success with it so I'm sure you will! You can't get any better than natural sunlight!! What kind of plants do you have in your outdoor tank??
You should seriously consider doing a dirt aquarium. It's a lot cheaper than using fluorite and a ton of people have had great success with it (including me, I just set up my first ever aquarium about 2 months ago with dirt and my plants are doing great, I don't dose with any ferts or co2...
I've also been intrigued by this idea, I definitely think it would be possible with red cherry shrimp and a predator fish because RCS breed so rapidly.
I want some dwarf Sagittarius, some jungle Val, and java fern. I would also like some duck weed. Please let me know if anyone has any of the above for sale!!
Yea your problem could be an excess of nutrients idk that's just a guess. Dustin from dustins fish tanks talks about that a lot in his videos, he says all the time that too many nutrients is bad for the plants. Maybe try planting some more plants in your tank to absorb the nutrients would help??
Another thing, you need to go ahead and cut off all of the leaves that have died. This will allow new leaves to sprout. If new leaves are sprouting then your plant is probably fine though.
Ok well here's what I think, I think that you may be dosing too much and providing too much nutrients for the plants. Too many nutrients can actually be harmful to plants.
How bout you provide some info on your tank, what kind of lighting (Kelvin, wattage?), what kind of substrate, any liquid ferts, how big is your tank??
Ok I bought six zebra danios yesterday and I also bought all the ghost shrimp they had because they didn't have RCS but they only had 3. I don't think ghost shrimp are as good of cleaners as RCS but oh well. Anyway the danios are doing great!! I fed them this morning and they all came up to the...
