Stocking a 30gal tropical tank, need suggestion! :)

So I introduced the rest of the fish after waiting 2 weeks from the first batch. Not too worried though because this tank has been cycled for two years and is very stable. Now have: 15 Neon Tetras 6 Cory's 1 Flame Gourami The neons still aren't really exploring yet but it took the first batch...

Stocking a 30gal tropical tank, need suggestion! :)

I like hatchet fish but I've always been scared they'll jump out of the tank. I have a few exposed spots in my hood and they might be able to make it through.

Stocking a 30gal tropical tank, need suggestion! :)

I've got a 30gal I'm planning on stocking with neon tetras and corydoras but I need some ideas on what to put in there with them. So far I want to go with: 15 Neon Tetras 6 Corydora Thinking of a dwarf gourami possibly or a pair of german blue rams. All suggestions are appreciated.

Are GBR or Bolivian Rams okay solo?

I like a challenge so I'd probably go GBR. They are a bit risky, and can die due to bad stock quite easily so its a bit of a gamble....But the reward is well worth it.

    50 gallon stock?

Meh I have a weakness for Mbuna. I'd stock about 15 in there. Maybe three species at a 1:4 ratio or possibly four at a 1:3 male to female. That's just me though. I've not encountered a single freshwater fish with more color and personality than Mbuna. I love mine.

    Dwarf Gourami Hiding

I definitely don't recommend two gouramis in a community tank if that is the situation. More than likely, your female is actually a male. While gouramis do take a bit longer to acclimate to a tank if "she" is not swimming around withing 2-3 days I would assume "she" lost a territorial dispute...

    Brownish Water?

Probably just debris from your substrate. Give a day or two to settle. If it doesn't you may want to explore your options from there.

Show fish for a 10 gallon tank. Suggestions?

Unnecessary shipping can be just as stressful and deadly as cramped living spaces. Sort of a double standard. Lets not talk down to members who obviously care for their fish just because they were misinformed and don't have something that you think they should be able to. He's explained his...

    My "New" old tank

Guppies would look good in there. Maybe some neon tetras.

    Has the tank been cycled?

I don't know about my Gourami.. plz help?

Is this female gourami colorful at all? Female gouramis aren't super common as they often lack the bright colors that the males have. Its a bit rare to find female gouramis at most pet stores. If they are both males there is going to be a dominant fish. Aggressiveness often times vary but most...

    Need help. Diatom outbreak?

So are diatoms the consensus? If so, what can I do to treat it, or should I just let it run its course.

New 20g tank :) what to do?

I wouldn't put a bristlenose in a 20g tall. Minimum would be a 20g long and even then you're pushing it. They get to be about 4 inches fully grown. I'd go with a few corydoras.

    Need help. Diatom outbreak?

This particular tank has been reading 0 nitrites and ammonia for almost a month now.

    Need help. Diatom outbreak?

So about 2 weeks ago I started noticing brown splotches on my planters pot decoration. Within two weeks it has spread to my fake plants, substrate, and even the glass. At first I thought it might be algea but now I'm not sure. Does anyone have a clue what it might be? This tank is cycled and...

will changing your media make you "un cycle"?

Most people here are speaking not from a sales person's perspective but from true experience. This is a passion for us, not simply a way to profit. Most of us have several tanks we have maintained for years, decades even. As long as you rinse your filter media in tank water your biological...

    aggressive mollies?

I had a dalmatian molly that was quite the bully. She would nip at my betta, chase my platys, and generally get aggressive with the other fish around her when feeding. Only ones she didn't bother was the Dwarf Gourami and cory cats. Didn't really care for the danios either because they were so...

    How hard its it

If you've got enough filter media you won't be upsetting your bacterial filter too much. I run two hobs on my 55 and I've stuffed so much filter sponge into the back of them that the biological filter has enough surface area in the filter itself to thrive with complete substrate...

will changing your media make you "un cycle"?

As long as you don't change them both at once you should be good. Rip up the physical media and stuff it into the back of the filter if you want. I run two filters on most of my tanks and just space their cleaning about 2 weeks apart to make sure the biological filter stays intact.

What to do with an extra 5gal?

That is a really pretty fish, but how large do they get?

What to do with an extra 5gal?

I have considered a betta, but honestly I don't like seeing them in anything smaller than a 10g.

What to do with an extra 5gal?

I'm not really a frog person, so that's not going to be an issue. I like the shrimp idea. Anybody else have any suggestions?

    10g stocking questions

+1 Have to agree with fort. I've kept cardinals in 10gal tanks for years and never had issues. Of course I could be lucky, but that's just from my experience. Edit: Marconis tank is absolutely beautiful. I love it.

What to do with an extra 5gal?

Well I have an extra 5 gallon just laying around that I used for a QT until I bought a 20g for that. Need some ideas. Was thinking about de-rimming it, getting a clip on light, running a sponge filter, and putting some ghost shrimp in it. But I'd love some more ideas. Would also like to do...

    Background

I love the physical in tank backgrounds. Feel they really are the way to go for a decent sized tank atleast. Look a whole lot more natural than a black coat of paint or a picture. I'm thinking about a DIY physical background project on my 55 gal mbuna tank. With a bowed rock cover for my...
