Light on or off during cycle?

I think leaving lights on would darken the rocks more but I'm not to sure if lighting is the factor that does that.

    Marco rocks?

If you buy the base rock, you can just throw it in since there won't be any die off. the LR in your tank will seed the dry rock and it'll become alive in time

    Live Sand?

If the tank has been running for a year, I'm pretty sure the sand is live now

    Who Has Azure Damselfish?

I had one, bullied both my clowns and my bicolor blenny. I think that if the word damsel IS in the name, not classification, runs a higher risk of aggression. Also had a domino damsel and it was aggressive too

    Marco rocks?

Its been four months for me and my rocks look pretty greyish, I think a lot of lighting turns the rock darker because I put the rocks into two different tanks and the one with more light is much darker. I could be totally wrong though since i only have FOWLR. Don't test or dose for calcium...

    cleaner shrimps mysteriously disappearing

I currently have both my 36g and 44g tank empty due to outbreaks of ich in both. While the tanks were empty, I decided to add some cleaner shrimps into my 36g to let them grow since they come very tiny from the LFS. I had a total of 5 cleaners and a fire shrimp in the 36g and everything was...

Ick outbreak in main and qt

I've used kick ich in two tanks and it had no effect, maybe I was just unlucky. I've learned my lesson the hard way and had two outbreaks inside my DT since I didn't quarantine. If you can, set up another QT and take the fishes out. I'm currently doing hyposalinity on my QT and it has cleared up...

But can like ich during its tomont state adhere onto inverts like it does to LR?

    Flame angels

I think just plenty of rock work is needed for them to hide

Can diseases infest a DT through inverts?

I don't remember, but I read somewhere that diseases such as ich and marine velvet can infest a DT through piggyback riding on inverts and corals, is this true? If it is, how do you prevent it?

How can i get these nitrates down!?!?!?!

I'm a bit confused, are you doing Hyposalinity treatment on your tank right now? Also, carbon and LR doesn't help to keep nitrAte down. If you are indeed doing a hypo treatment, I've read that it would kill off your beneficial bacteria. That is why people dont usually do hypo instead their DT

    Cycling without live rock

I think everyone is misunderstanding the OP. He can't get the LR for a few days, not after his tank cycles. The LR will help in the cycle because it will seed the rest of the tank. If you can't get it for a few days, its not a big problem since tanks take anywhere from 2-6 weeks to cycle...

    Could I get a lionfish?????

where is your salinity at? I don't know about fish compatibility, but if the salinity is too different, it'll kill the fish

    About to start hyposalinity treatment

The tank is cycled, I checked parameters a week ago and it was fine and also last night before I added the fish. I've read that during hyposalinity, my beneficial bacteria will die off and that I'll have to keep up with water changes to keep ammonia down, does the bacteria eventually stay...

Did you recheck the parameter after the death? How did you acclimate the shrimp?

    About to start hyposalinity treatment

Hello everyone, I'm about to start hyposalinity for my fishes and I just wanted to see if anyone had any advice to tips on how to go about with the treatment smoothly. I will have a small maroon clownfish, medium dwarf flame angel, and small yellow tang in the HT for treatment. It is a 20g tank...

    Introducing tangs...

If you can't introduce all of them at once, you would go about base on their color and body shape. Tangs usually show more aggression to tangs that are more similar to them. When considering which three to add first, decide on color first and then on body shape.

    yellowtail damsel growth question

From my experience with damsels, if it's bigger than your clown, it will bully it. I would go with the smallest possible

    Post pics of QT set-ups

Did anyone have a problem with maintain their pH in a QT? I set up a 20g long, but the pH dropped to around 7.0 . So far, i've been using marine buffer to try to raise it, but I was hoping there is a natural way to maintain the pH. I have a penguin 200 filter on the tank so I think that's enough...
