    Need stocking help.

That's the one I go to as well. I'd heard that they will cross breed if placed in the tank together...fine by me. I've got a female guppy in the tank right now and she needs a companion(though I'm seriously contemplating keeping 2 females from her fry when I can tell which ones they are!) but...

    Need stocking help.

@Cdepriest, the LFS you go to...is it Wet Pets? Did you by chance go ask about the Endlers this weekend? I went today and totally forgot about asking them because as I was looking at the feeder guppies(which I thought actually looked quite like the Endlers) I got side tracked by the ghost...

    Need stocking help.

I'm loving those Endlers! Taking a trip to the LFS tomorrow to get some more glofish so I'm definitely asking about those!

    Need stocking help.

I don't know what size tank glofish need but I'm pretty partial to those. My daughter has a couple right now in her 20g(working on getting more) and they're feisty active little suckers, plus we've got some LED lights that have the black light effect at night and it's pretty wicked...the fish...

20 gallon...would like help stocking please

My 20g tank finished cycling a few days ago and so far I've got 1 F guppy with her 7 babies and 2 glofish. On Wednesday I'm heading to the LFS to purchase 3-5 more glofish for the tank but I want some ideas on other fish to add eventually. Once the babies get to the point that I can tell whether...

    plants

I got really lucky that the fish ladies at Petsmart actually knew what they were talking about. They steered me toward the Marineland setup, glad I bought it. Plus my LFS is actually good at what they do. I've heard a lot of horror stories but mine has been great. Hopefully the OP will have...

    plants

No, it's this one. Amazon.com: LED Aquarium Light: Home & Garden I haven't had the tank very long but so far the plants are thriving. My Anacharis is stemming out like crazy...I'm going to have to trim it up soon and it's been in the tank about 2 weeks. The Cryptocoryne has grown really fast...

Whatever stock light that came with my 20g marineland kit I purchased from Petsmart... http://www.amazon.com/Bio-Wheel-Gallon-Kit-Light/dp/B004HSQQKE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1304976090&sr=8-4 (didn't pay NEAR that price though...)

    plants

I've got LED lighting in my 20g and I've got some low light plants that seem to be doing pretty darn well in there. Anacharis, Java Moss, Java Fern and Cryptocoryne Wendtii are all in there and growing like crazy. BTW my light is stock that came with my Marineland aquarium kit...

    Red gills

I've heard the same thing and my female guppy hasn't attempted to eat hers yet(a week later). I'm assuming at this point she won't bother so I haven't worried about separating them. Maybe it's the males that eat them though mine never attempted it either.

    I'm showing nitrAtes!

It's 8.2. The fish seem to be doing fine with it so I'm not super worried but if lowering the ph means they'll be happier I'm willing to try anything to bring it down. Are the peat and bogwood available for sale through the normal fish websites?

    I'm showing nitrAtes!

I had my water tested at the LFS this afternoon and my tank is indeed cycled woo hoo! The only thing wrong is the PH and apparently it's because my KH is so high(23, whatever that means). I'm at a loss as to how to get it lowered without the use of chemicals though.

    I'm showing nitrAtes!

No and I was really afraid that not doing so was going to seriously delay the cycling process because I've heard that cycling with fish actually takes longer(about 8-12 weeks). I'm definitely going to consult the LFS to make sure that I'm not hallucinating or the kit isn't bad because I'm in a...

I'm using the API master test kit

    I'm showing nitrAtes!

I've been cycling my 20g tank for about a week, week and a half now(unfortunately with fish). I was advised when I started the tank to add Tetra Safe Start and a source of ammonia(fish). I've been testing every single day with the same results, Ammonia 0.25, Nitrites 0, Nitrates 0, PH 8.0-8.2...

    Took the plunge, opinions?

I hope so. My daughter will be devastated otherwise(the tanks are hers)...though after doing all of this research and caring for the tanks I've become quite attached too.

Definitely didn't think about the DW leeching too many! I'll have to keep a close eye on things...wish I could test for it lol! Just FYI to everyone who's posted in the thread, I'm keeping fish journals of both tanks and many a tidbit of information from this thread has been added. I...

    Took the plunge, opinions?

I got VERY lucky with my first piece of driftwood. At the time I put it in my 20g tank I didn't know that it would stain, I rinsed the DW off and put the thing right in there...never had a lick of trouble with it. My water is still clear almost a week later. However, after getting the...

    Took the plunge, opinions?

Thanks :). I have read it but it's been a couple of days and it definitely won't hurt to give it another read. Unfortunately for me, I'm cycling 2 tanks at once so I'm constantly testing, performing pwc's, testing, researching, etc. I've taken in so much new info in the past few days that some...

    Took the plunge, opinions?

The tap water ph has been a pretty steady 8.0-8.2. After researching the fish, 8.0 seems acceptable so I'm going to leave it be. I've heard driftwood can actually lower the ph so I may invest in another one for my smaller tank at some point.

    Took the plunge, opinions?

Unfortunately it's not fishless. I've quit messing with ph since after doing some research on my fish, 8.0 ph(which is what the last few tests have been on both tanks) is perfectly acceptable. The ammonia finally spiked today(.50) and I did a 75% water change, morning and evening. It kinda...

    Took the plunge, opinions?

My tests every day have all been very steady... 0.25(or less) ammonia, 0 nitrites, 0 nitrates and between 7.6-8.2 ph(mostly 8.2). I've just been adding the conditioners that remove chlorine etc to the water since we have VERY high chlorine content here. The higher ph has really been my only...

    Took the plunge, opinions?

Thanks. That's what my LFS told me as well(they sell freshwater, .50 a gal). I'm still trying to work out the details of how much water I'm going to need(I've got a 10g and a 20g tank) for at least a few days time...since I'm still trying to get both tanks cycled and I don't live in the same...

    Took the plunge, opinions?

I doubt I'll mess with it. Seems kind of pricy for something that's not a necessity in my tank. I'll try out the fw at the lfs first.

    Took the plunge, opinions?

The R/O system is for my tap water, not the tank correct? I may look into that at some point but for now I've spent a lot of $$$ on the two small tanks I have and it's only been 2 weeks! I think for a while I'll just buy the special LFS water since it's about as dirt cheap as you can get. I...
