Need advice on selling aquarium & pump

Need advice on selling aquarium & pump Very sorry to hear about your loss. I am a fellow Minnesotan as well. If I didn't have so many tanks I would offer to take it off your hands. My best advice to you, check craigslist and see how much similar tanks and equipment are selling for. Being...

    Using Peat to Lower pH

Imo anything over a .2 fluctuation in Ph is too much. I would leave the peat moss out for now and let the tank regulate itself back to the mean of 7.8 (having a consistent ph is generally better for the fish). Once the ph normalizes I would re-introduce the peat, it will help to slowly lower...

    Littlefish4's Tanks

First of all, congrats on the larger set up! I will be watching this thread to see it evolve. I think you will be okay with a pair of Thorichthys Meeki in there but they do prefer larger footprints than what the 29 offers. (the 55 would be perfect) New world experts can feel free to chime in...

    Back after hiatus!

I have been taking a peek. The tanks are very impressive and tbh, POTM is a large reason why I wanted to dive into the Planted realm. Can honestly say I'm a little overwhelmed, especially with CO2, which I am a complete novice to. Right now I just have some Red Broad Leaf Ludwigia and Java Fern...

    Back after hiatus!

Hi AA, I am back from about a two year hiatus. Big changes forced me out of the hobby for a couple of years due to a big move, career change, and welcoming a third human into our family! This forum helped me a bunch the first time around, even though I lurked a lot more than I would like to...

Lighting Recommendation for new FOWLR build

I currently have a 36 gallon bowfront tank that is a holding tank for cichlids. I need to get rid of these because I don't have the space necessary to upgrade tank size as they grow. I want to flip that tank into a FOWLR tank and need ideas for lighting. I do have a Marineland Double Brite LED...

    Help!!!! What is this???????

I had the same "bug" in my holding tank. I used API safe and easy glass cleaner when doing a water change and that takes care of them. I have noticed that if I let algae build up on my hood they start to come back, but with a good clean they disappear again. Keep up weekly water changes and it...

    Tank smell

Lol I have never heard it referred to as flushing it like a toilet before but that is a good point. Water changes are going to be your best friend and worst enemy when this is all said and done. You will probably end up doing a water change daily until the tank is completely cycled. I learned...

    Tank smell

Your tap doesn't have a smell normally I am assuming? Also you should run a glass of tap water and leave it sit overnight, then test the tap water to see what your base levels are. Are you doing a fish in cycle or fish less?

    Tank smell

Are you using tap water, R/O, or a filtering system from the tap?

    Stocking question.

I had an extremely hard time keeping gbrs in my sa tank. They tend to die for no reason other than bad breeding. I would suggest boliviano as well, similar to gbr but much easier to keep. Someone mentioned kribs and a pistol as well. I would caution you on those dwarfs as if you end up getting a...

    Spirulina Flakes

I always try to find new life spectrum, omega one, or hikari spiraling. It's not always accessible at my lfs. I recently was forced to purchase api brand and my fish seem to enjoy it and are doing well. Just look at the ingredients and make sure the crude protein is low.

    Cleaning filter/replacing media?

You meant you think they're washing it in tap water right? ;)

    Cleaning filter/replacing media?

When you are cleaning the filter how are you cleaning it? If you're not simply rinsing it in aquarium water then you are killing off essential bacteria. Probably the largest supply of it you have in the tank. If in fact your readings still are ok you may be getting a foreign chemical or...

    Sand color recommendation

I agree brown would really cool and natural. I have used black, and white and of the two the black makes the fish's colors pop a whole lot more. Obviously without the light the blacks and browns will not show your tank as well. So, IME it is best to slowly work in a routine to get your fish...

    Wardley vacation feeders

We just got home from vacation this evening to find that all of our fish are alive and well. As I was counting we noticed one of our snails was hiding so we went searching for him only to find that our kribs have successfully bred about 11-13 little krib fry. So not only did all of our fish make...

    Wardley vacation feeders

Well that is good to know. Thanks rookie. I did water changes on all tanks before I left as well so there was fresh water in there to start.

    Wardley vacation feeders

If she can't get into my condo how bad will the feeders mess with my chemistry in the tank in those 7 days do you guys expect?

    Wardley vacation feeders

Well we are on day 3 now. I can have my sister run by and do a major pwc for me if we can let her in our building from here. I hope she can get in. I have some sensitive little buggers in our tanks, rams, albino bn plec, 6 julii's, 7 male guppies. Kribs in another tank alone with some nerites.

    Wardley vacation feeders

We recently left for vacation and had a sitter for us who was willing to come feed our fish and do a small pwc while we are away. Last minute we were unable to reach her and had to run to Walmart as a last resort. I purchased the Wardley 3 and 7 day slow release feeders and was wondering if...

    Kribs and guppies

Yeah it was a spontaneous purchase for me and is not like me. I got the pair for $1.99 and couldn't pass it up. I may just have to return them :( Or convince the girl to get another tank :)

    Kribs and guppies

From what I have read they prefer to mate in slightly acidic water and I have slightly alkaline water. Will this lessen the chances that they will breed or is it just inevitable? I also don't have a tank suitable for the kribs once they do mate. All I have is a 5 gallon and live in an...

    Kribs and guppies

I was curious if a pair of Kribensis (M and F) would get along with a school of guppies? I know that when they breed the Kribs can get aggressive but to what extreme? Also, the tendency Kribs have to nip the fins of slow moving fish, will this be an issue as I don't feel my guppies are slow...

    Tank Suggestions please

Hatchetfish are a good option for the top IMO. An angel or two might be OK for a centerpiece, not 100% on that but would make a great centerpiece fish. A pearl or Opaline gourami would also look killer as a mid level centerpiece fish IMO.

Question about stocking my 29 gal tank

I would say after you put the other two cories in the tank you would be OK to add a centerpiece fish, depending on which species you're looking at if you add more filtration. While the fluval is rated at 34 gallons the 1 inch per fish rule would certaintly apply unless more filtration is added...
