    pH climbing question.

Yup, that’s exactly it! I only use treated tap (neos and bamboo shrimp are my only shrimp in there.) That day I posted I set some water out in a bowl to test that theory and the next morning it was reading like 7.8. The water at my previous house was lower ph and didn’t rise, so I guess less...

Crazy - Won 3 auction bids for shrimp!

I’m naming that one batshrimp! They’re very beautiful patterns! All acclimate okay?

    pH climbing question.

So I tested my ph on my shrimp tank today and was surprised to have to pull out my high ph kit. It looks like it’s running around 7.6-7.8 or so when my source water runs about 6.8. Tested source water again today and it’s at 6.8 still. So what is bringing up the ph in my tank? It’s a very...

    So over the mini ramshorns…

Yeah I usually find one or two, not sure what happened that so many got in this time! I’m just glad to see them healthy! Due to my history of having health issues in my last group I get real nervous when shrimp start disappearing!

    Moving cross country, help!

Since they need to last the night I would use the bubblers, at least at night when the water is still. I think the cories would probably be more comfortable all together since they’re schooling fish. When I moved mine I only separated for safety. Don’t want anything traveling with a roommate...

    So over the mini ramshorns…

I went ahead and gave away (with proper disclaimers) all the substrate and plants in the guppy tank then just rinsed with hot water and let any decor I wanted to keep dry for a few days between transport and set up. Haven’t seen a mini ramshorn in there since. I still see one every few days in...

Shrimp tank and sponges! Is this ok??

I do that with intake tubing too from my HOB filters. Especially the ubend pieces that are tough to clean. Had one that was so thick with algae and biofilm that it was nearly clogged. Few hours in the cherry tank and it was good to go!

    75 gallon stocking

Thanks! It’s still a work in progress but I’m happy with it so far! I’m definitely aware of the limitations of aqadvisor but from playing around with it over the last decade I’ve found that it’s a great resource to get you started playing with possibilities. The biggest deficiency in my...

    75 gallon stocking

I just moved and in the process upgraded my 55 to a 75 gallon and am thinking about filling out the schools a bit more and maybe adding something but I'm not really sure... It's only moderately planted at the moment because I replaced substrate and replanted. It will eventually be pretty...

Pygmy cories, ill or just getting old

I don’t have a picture right now because at the moment they all look fine. Never had any spots or anything. Just went off color and eventually listless and death. I have quarantined one that went off color before and treated with paraguard and Maracyn 2 and saw no improvement. I’ve had...

    So over the mini ramshorns…

Honestly I’m thinking about just using all new substrate and dipping then quarantining any plants and just letting the filter dry out. I have an identical filter running on my qt that I can use instead. I’m only moving guppy fry back into this tank so the bioload should be small enough that...

    Shrimp beginner help

How long have they been in the tank? Generally removing hiding places just makes them try to hide more because they feel exposed. They’re prey creatures and don’t understand yet that there isn’t anything to eat them here! Eventually they’ll learn that nothing is trying to eat them and be...

Help me identify this snail stowaway

Either a baby ramshorn or an adult mini ramshorn. I have the mini ramshorns and while they don’t overpopulate if you control feeding and are quite beneficial to the ecosystem I’ve decided after a couple years that I just don’t like the look of them in my tanks. I like snails but I don’t like...

    So over the mini ramshorns…

So, I’ve had mini ramshorn snails in my sons guppy tank for ages. The tiny ones that don’t get bigger than a mm or two. They didn’t really bother me at first but lately I’ve decided that I’m over them. I am well aware that they are quite beneficial to the ecosystem but I just don’t like them...

Tank upgraded from 10g to 20L - lost 2 fish

Yeah I didn’t either until I wiped out most of my tank during a routine water change. I checked with the water company after it happened and confirmed that there was a flush going on. Then 2 years later I got caught again, one of the few times I didn’t double dose and I came back after a...

Tank upgraded from 10g to 20L - lost 2 fish

If ammonia and nitrite are zero, try a dose of your dechlorinator. If your water system is doing a flush right now there could be way more chlorine in the tap than usual. I’ve lost fish twice just doing water changes during a water system flush :( Now I just routinely double or triple dose...

    Injured goldfish not healing

A picture would help but you don’t need to stress him out more by picking him up. Just take one through the glass. How big are all the fish and how long have they all been in there. Any new additions lately? do you have water tests and if so what kind and what are the results. Goldies are...

    Goldfish with no belly scales?

Doing any better? When you checked parameters you mentioned nitrite but not ammonia. Do you have a test for ammonia? Best to make sure water quality is pristine because that will aid healing! Good call removing the suspect decor!

    betta with fin rot

Agreed that the neons are likely not a problem. OP should keep an eye on them because fish temperaments do vary but I’ve kept betta in large community tanks with schools of neons and glow lights and they barely interacted. No nipping. Is the quarantine tank you are using cycled? If it isn’t...

    Ich? Or..?

I disagree. Ich is already in the tank and the other fish are already exposed. The entire tank should be treated for ich.

All my fish died besides pleco after adding driftwood

Two options which you can only evaluate with water test results. Option 1: mini cycle caused by the 5 new fish. Ammonia and or nitrite killed by he fish. Option 2: driftwood can cause ph to drop. If that happened too quickly it may have ph shocked your fish. Test your tank water for...

    panda cory fin problem

Are they new, how long has it had this? Do you have a quarantine tank to treat in? I had one come home from the pet shop looking like that except it was his back tail. It was a secondary fungal infection from a systemic bacterial infection. Needed a combination of paraguard and maracyn 2...

Pygmy cories, ill or just getting old

I have been having the worst luck with my Pygmy cories lately. Seems like every few weeks I’m seeing one looking a little pale, listing a bit or with slightly clamped fins. No water quality issues, others look fine. Within a few weeks they’re gone and another looks a little off. Nothing...
