    How's this for a skimmer?

I just switched to a older used cpr bakpak and it pulls so much more gunk out of the water. The jebo flooded about every month, once when we where out of town and shorted the power strip burned a spot on the floor and 10-15 gallons of water dumped, auto top off emptied and all. Mine wasnt the in...

    Base Rock

I added a bunch of dead base rock to our tank and cycled it first in another container, it had been in someone elses tank previously so there was dry dead stuff in them. Might be something to consider doing just to be safe:)

    cycling/water change

Some people say there is no need to do a water change during cycling, I did water changes during the cycle to try and save as much life as possible in the LR, I have heard this will prolong the cycle a little but thats not really a big deal. The only time I seem to notice junk on top of the...

"Lost in the Sauce" Starting a 125g

When I converted I had the same questions and there was so much info everywhere! Lighting seemed most important for a reef, not as much so for FOLR. filtration I think allot of people combine types, LR is a great biological filter. definitely start off with and use RO water, prevents problems...

    It's started...it's study time

Your gonna love it! As you have probably read...first an ammonia spike, then nitrite, then nitrates will spike and fall off. I didnt see allot of changes the first week or two when our tank cycled, then there was odd little things popping up all the time. We added some base rock a couple months...

    DIY skimmer

From what I've read you could just cut it off as close to the rock as you can and attach it to another rock. The stump will regrow a new head also. I just did first time frag of our toadstool about a week ago and all is well and it was easier than I expected. Hope this helps:)

Stop me before I kill somethin'

What we did was mix the water and salt in the tank, then added sand(live aragonite sand for us didnt cloud much), then we added the LR. We bought cured LR from the LFS and hardly had a cycle at all. We let it sit empty for about 5 weeks to be sure, while doing small weekly water changes to try...

    Move plenum?

Thanks! That sounds pretty easy, just a bit nerve racking thinking about it. We will be staying in a place temporarily and have to do it again soon after but that will only be a short (hour) move

    Move plenum?

Hi! We will be moving our tank soon and I was wondering if anyone has moved a plenum or if we should ditch it and use southdown and a DSB when we set it back up. Its about a 8 or 9 hour drive and I am thinking of renting a trailer to haul the tank in, does the temperature of LR matter when its...

Tank is in the cycle, but.......

    Jebo 2003 protein skimmer???

I have one of these, it has gone nuts on me 3 times so far since March. Once this past weekend when we went out of town and pumped out about 15 gallons of water which then splashed on the power strip( my fault I guess) and it melted, burned a spot on the floor, and really scared the crap out of...

help me pick a new fish

Hmmm, thats some space! One of my "one day I would like to get" fish is a saddleback butterfly, or a foxface rabbitfish (he eats bubble algea). Its hard to pick fish that are compatible, and space, and will it hide all day...We wil probably get a couple goby's in the future, they are cute!
