Honestly it's been cycled etc. It did once have raised nitrite levels. But nothing bad since. I don't know how/why the levels are like that. They just are. Must be doing something good. :)

    Free driftwood?

Id give it more than a few days. Took a month of soaking to do our driftwood piece. Even now it still discolourates the water.

    Food

Would use pellets for sharks. They usually feed at the bottom of the tank.

Shook my sponge filter..white dust everywhere now!!

Actually just had a thought and could and most likely be wrong but it's a thought ... If your filter has 3 different components such as White filter, carbon filter and the block filters... Could the block filters be the cause? In my filter they are creamy White in colour a bit like chalk. Could...

Shook my sponge filter..white dust everywhere now!!

My answer to question 1. I clean my filters by dipping them in tank water during pwc. Then giving them a good few squeezes in the water. Does the job for me.

    Quarantine tanks

The main tank has some form of problem going on. Have had some deaths and sick fish the since yesterday. I've taken the filter from finding nemo (goldfish) tank and put that in. He has always been a healthy fish. A few weeks ago we went away for a week. I forgot to leave the filter on. He was...

At the moment nope. The moral of the story is don't buy fish from pets at home.

    Quarantine tanks

I got a proper tank today instead of the bucket for quarantine purposes. It's on and cycling at the minute. But my question is ... What happens if you don't need to put fish in it for a while? Do you need to then recycle? And as obviously fish won't be in it all the time will it mean the...

    Pets at home

Sorry. I didn't mean to sound like I was having ago at you. I had been asked once before whether it was cycled when I got the water tested. Lol. Whatever were doing must be good news on the water conditions front. One of the other guppies rear fin is slightly curved at the bottom. I did...

Thanks. Lost a guppy this morning too. Hoping the rest will pull through. How are yours doing now your betta has been removed?

    Pets at home

The tank is most certainly cycled! I assure you of that. There has never been a problem since the guppies moved in. Just since the sharks did. I'm wondering if they were a 'bad batch' from store. But whatever was wrong with them has upset the guppies now too. I've put in some health guard...

Checked today. Water is just fine. No raised levels whatsoever. BB died whilst I was out. :(

    Sudden death!

Sick guppy now!! Just had to remove BB. (buzzy bee) from the tank. He's now in QT. He is sticking to the side of the tank. Not swimming well. Was also wedged at the top of the filter. It's bad enough to loose the sharks. Now my guppies are going to follow the same route. These are the...

They have been fine since we started to put fish in. Never had a problem. I will be en route to get a test done today. I havnt been able to afford a test kit I'm afraid :(

    Sudden death!

They have been in for just over a week. The guppies about 6 weeks. Pwc done every week without fail. Tapsafe used. Water tests have always been fine. The tank is 64L. Now before you say it's not big enough, I'm aware of that. An upgrade is being looked into. The damage was already done so to...

    Pets at home

I am never going back to pets at home. Two fish in just over a week. Dead. Poor Jackson (shark). No warning. He just died. I put a pic up if anyone could help determine what it could be. I'd be grateful.

He replaced the one that lived for 48 hours. Had him for just over a week. Gutted. He was perfectly fine before. Maybe I shouldn't name them, I named them 2 days ago. Bad batch maybe. But on closer inspection his injury looks like a cut?! Gone green. With some White thing in the middle. :(

    Sudden death!

I know think that the other one has White spot too. I got it wrong. It's actually Jackson that died. The guppies seem ok. But then so did the shark. :(

I feel your sadness today. Michael (Bala shark) very suddenly, with no warning died this evening. He has some sort of green burn on him :(

    Sudden death!

Michael (bala shark) has been fine all day. Just looked in the tank. Found him like this. Dead. Does anyone know what this Mark is??? There are guppies in the tank. I'm worried about them now. :(

I'd certainly leave it a good 3 weeks and ensuring your water conditions are all good. Sorry another one has died.
