I used to have a zebra and handful of horned nerites. Part of my daily routine was checking for snails to flip back over. It’s been a long time but I seem to recall reading somewhere they have trouble righting themselves but I don’t remember why. Maybe their bodies aren’t big/long enough...
Random update. I didn’t end up going back to that same store but I went to a really nasty one I used to visit back in the day. Still dirty and the water smells like gym socks but I gave them a shot.
Over the last month I got 14 Rasboras and 12 panda corys from them. Granted Rasboras are pretty...
Yeah, glass half full, right?
I used to drive 1.5-2 hours round trip to go to an amazing place but sadly they closed up a few years ago. I was hoping this would be my new go-to as it's only 10 minutes away lol.
Well came home and both remaining fish died probably early in the day. Quarantine tank and equipment is currently getting sterilized :banghead:
Thanks for all of the comments
I may give them another try in the future but I’m really after getting my panda population back up. It looks like the place mainly focuses on cichlids and most of the reviews on yelp talk about the quality of them (it’s how I found the place).
Lost another panda last night and my wife just texted me a picture of one more on it’s side.
I remember when I first started this planted tank I had 10 pandas in a QT. They were all very active and voracious eaters. I expected that this time. None of these new ones have been very active at...
Good to know for peace of mind, I didn't know they weren't too hardy. I've been pretty lucky with them, the only fish I've had an easier time with were gold fish as a kid, lol.
At one time I had panda pairs spawning in the planted display tank without any intervention and around 5 of the fry...
I might have incorrectly assumed the single cory was doing better in the QT, as it did die within a few hours of placing it in there. My original 3 cories in the display don't seem to be acting any different/stressed and the shrimp are busy doing their shrimp-things in all corners of the tank...
If they’re young and small they could be hiding in your plants really well. I have two older ones that are about 2” long and sometimes I can’t find them for days and they’ll pop up out of a plant. Sometimes I’ll be looking for 5 mins and not notice them on a leaf right in front of my face. Some...
I racked my brain all night thinking about it. One thing I thought of was that while I do pretty large weekly water changes, admittedly I only vacuum the substrate around the plants once a month (rationale was that I was really lightly stocked, probably wrong thinking:hide:). The night before I...
Well came home today and unfortunately it died. Doesn’t look injured or anything but I guess it answers my questions as to why it was doing better in quarantine than the display tank (it wasn’t, obviously). The other 4 in the QT still seem fine though.
Hi all.
Short version: New panda Cory looks like it’s struggling, is pale and has trouble staying upright in my display tank. Took it out and placed in my 10 gallon quarantine tank and it’s perking up. The odd part is the quarantine tank is filled with water from the display tank with a mature...
Hello.
We're tenting for termites in a couple of days. I'm taking our fish to a nearby store until it's done. They're going to be in a bare tank so I was thinking about bringing my amano shrimp with us instead.
What's a good small and manageable sized container to house them in so I don't...
That's pretty bad. You reminded me to go leave a review on the Aqueon one. I'm still impressed with their customer service getting a brand new one out to me at no charge.
Just an update.
So I emailed Aqueon with my issue and sent them a copy of my original invoice from Amazon. A week later, a brand new heater arrived today at no charge!
I'm very happy with the Aqueon customer service!
I always read that you wanted 3-5 watts per gallon and if you get one towards the higher end of the equation it doesn't work as hard to heat the tank. Not sure how accurate any of that info is though haha. I'll have to look into it thanks.
Good idea about two heaters. I actually thought about it before but decided on just one since I live in Southern California and the coldest we let the house get in the winter is 67 degrees (were wimps lol). Figured I'd have enough time to swap out one of my spares if I was in a pinch.
Actually that's a good idea. Any specific brands of controllers better than others? I see some Finnex ones for about $30 not sure if that's reasonable.
Hi all.
I'm currently in the market for a new 250w heater for my 50 gallon planted tank. I have a 250w Aqueon heater that's about 4 years old but it's stuck at ~84 degrees (thankfully not higher). I have two other Aqeuon heaters that are still working fine so I might get another one but I...
I think mine took about 6 months to get pretty large? Give or take can't really remember. As beautiful as she is now I wish she was still quarter sized like when I got her lol. Looked pretty awesome that size.
