This is probably the most solid advice. I also have to pay careful attention at feeding time to make sure everyone gets what they need. I actually hold the food in my hand and move it around. They will also act funny if the water parameters are off too.
Just a thought and I'm no expert.
The Penn-plax canisters are a good unit for a fair price, IMO. The cascade 700 flows 185 gph by itself. They run about 80-100 dollars. Just something to think about. I'm really happy with my unit, very quiet. If you could possibly swing the 1000, even better.
Just get a thermometer and check it at every feeding. I think you'll be ok.
On another note though: I had a top fin heater with painted or screen printed little blue spots. When I adjusted the position of the heater in the tank and once it was warm, the paint came off and disbursed in my tank...
^^^ Yes. If you plan to keep low light plants you can just replace the bulbs that come with it for bulbs that promote plant growth like the aqueon floramax bulbs. Just do some research on low light plants and you'll find a great variety. You can always plan on doing another fixture later if you...
Well my kids are already past preschool, unfortunately but good for you that you choose to teach the kids discipline through fish keeping. I think that's awesome. I also checked out your site and I'm proud to see you are a Mac user too :hide:. Haha
Great thread ;). I've been following all...
Ok. I'll bite :). You have to promise to take what I say with a grain of salt until the others chime in. If anything, It will jumpstart your thread and you'll get the solid advice needed.
Filters: Get enough to cycle the water 5 times an hour. You can never have enough though so don't be...
Honestly, I wouldn't rely on what they say about stocking or the quality of your water. Not discounting the knowledge of your LFS, but putting more fish in there may or may not be a good thing depending on how long your tank has been running.
Or is it wishful thinking on my part..
I have a lot aeration going on so I'm just curious. Here are some pics...
This one is located in a corner where a powerhead is being used.
This one is right/centerish.
Others are doing the same thing but not all.
Just curious.
Oto's. :). I've heard that they can be a little temperamental but I don't see that in mine. I supplement by using a veggie clip with a mixture of zucchini and cucumber slices. If you have a current problem with algae, then just let them go! They also don't get much bigger than 2" so it's an...
Well I can tell you one thing. A new tank will not only provide you with responsibility, it will provide discipline as well. Get yourself a test kit and check the water every 3 days or so. Don't get the strips, buy an actual kit with test tubes and solutions. API make a great kit. They run about...
Tetras are a neat schooling fish. There's a lot of verity to choose from too. A pack of 15-20 cardinals or black neons are breath taking imo. There's also a lot of other options for schooling fish that can be gratifying as well. Cory's are neat and can be kept in numbers as well as oto's. Very...
