I wish I could have more than one fish

I have a 29 gallon tank that only has one African Cichlid in it right now. I'd like to keep more, but this one has killed any that I try putting in. It's a male and very aggressive. Does anyone have any tips about how to add fish to a tank like this? It's frustrating me and the tank is so...

    I just wasted $40!

By the way, the two fish that were killed off were female and male. The bully is most definitely a male. It was so strange to see it go after the female so aggressively.

    I just wasted $40!

my tank is pretty well decorated with lots of little "territories" and space for everyone. I first let the two new ones that are now dead sit in the water for 15 minutes to get acclimated and then put them in one at a time. i did switch some decorations around.

    I just wasted $40!

The two that got killed were metriclima lombardoi and melanchromis blue johanni. the one thats killing everything is some type of peacock i think. someone said was it a auratus and no its definitely not.

    I just wasted $40!

One of the fish was just a bit smaller, the other larger than the one that killed them.

    I just wasted $40!

I just purchased 2 African Cichlids 2 days ago for a total of $40. They were promptly killed off by another african cichlid who is a big bully/got a thirst for blood it seems. The established cichlid tormented and nipped them both to death in two freaking days!!!! These 2 fish were perfectly...

How often should I be changing my filter

Why have I been changing it every month and spending 15 dollars on a 6 pack then lol? They must really just tell you the month stuff to get your money, thanks guys.

How often should I be changing my filter

I've been doing it every month with no real issue, but I realize that beneficial bacteria builds up on the filter and when you replace it it takes that away.

I feel so bad for my fish right now

This won't affect the cycle? That seems like an awful lot.

I feel so bad for my fish right now

Foster, it's not green at all actually. It is in fact milky which makes me almost 100% sure it's a bacterial bloom. I've been using the Stability and AmQuel since yesterday with no noticable results. I guess I'll just have to be patient. How often should I be doing water changes and how much...

I feel so bad for my fish right now

I just went and got AmQuel Plus to use instead of Ammo Lock that I already have. I also bought Seachem Stability to help speed up the biological process. Anyone have any experience with the latter product? It says that you are suppose to use it when you first establish an aquarium, but it has...

I feel so bad for my fish right now

I'll take your advice though on the Ammo Lock considering you are the second person who has told me that.

I feel so bad for my fish right now

Believe me, I know about keeping the Ammo low. I've always managed to do that. I've never dreamed of ever having an Ammo level as high as it is right now. The highest level listed on my test is 6.0ppm I think and mine was past that. I would thought everything would have died by now. Poor...

What Made You Want A Freshwater Aquarium?

I was looking in to getting a Bearded Dragon because I wanted some kind of animal to take care of. They require a lot of effort so I decided against it. I instead decided on fish and saw 2 African Cichlids that I really liked. I didn't know anything about them before then, and I didn't even...

I feel so bad for my fish right now

I recently moved and even more recently moved my fish tank. It started out ok(The levels) and I even(Stupidly) got 2 more fish(I had three). One of those fish has passed already because of illness. Long story short, I didn't take any of the old water and put in all new water. I also replaced...

    Male or Female?

I just got this little one a couple of days ago and I think I've figured out what kind of African Cichlid it is. Is it the Metriaclima Lombardoi? If it is then I think I have myself a little female which is DEFINITELY what I wanted. I don't need anymore males. Thanks for anyone's input!

    Gap between Aquarium and Stand

Thanks! I don't have the feet on actually because I have it on carpet. I tried both ways and without the feet seemed the most level. Again, when making the adjustments to the stand the other night, I put a level on the stand and it was level. Then I put a level on the stand with the tank on...

    Gap between Aquarium and Stand

Thanks for all of the fast responses. I feel a little better now that everyone seems to have a similar story. I never knew that it would be so challenging to find a good fish stand! I think I'm going to leave it how it is now, although what Bill said about fabricating still makes me a little...

    Gap between Aquarium and Stand

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum. I discovered this website after researching the above topic thoroughly on Google. Anyway, here's my situation: I recently moved and thus had to move my aquarium as well (29 gallon). I bought a stand that I hated so I took it back and got the Manhattan Metal...
