YES yes and yes. They are. Its all about sales with the pet stores. Bettas are somewhat disposable to them. Of course a Betta can SURVIVE in a cup, and a dog can SURVIVE in a crate. But is that really any sort of life for that animal? Do whatever you want with your fish, but it is definitely...

They werent pale at any point from petstore, to my house, :) .... and they seemed to be well acclimated at the pet store. Which is rare for Oto's! Here's a pic from when I first got them home....

Thanks guys! I don't know why I didn't think of it.....I used a piece of sponge from my display tank's filter and 100% water from the tank too. Moved a few plants for them to nom on as well. Lol man these guys are busy little munchers! Thanks for the help! there's only a few small specks of Ich...

I do have a small 2.5 gal tank I could set up....I'm just worried about the changing parameters from their old tank to my QT tank then to my home tank killing them, if not the ich. I suppose I could put my Cory's in the small tank for a cpl weeks and keep the oto's in the main tank...

Ummmm..... what do I do? I just switched my substrate to sand and once it was all clear and settled I added my betta, and he proceeded to consume a very bloated belly-full of bits of sand that settled on the plant leaves. :-( Is it going to kill him? I'm freakin out here!!!!!

Ok so i am just wondering where they came from cuz ive never had this before...... My best guess is there must have been some dormant ones in the aqua log i recenly added. ...or on one of the new plants???? But how do i get rid of them; supposing theyre in the log, what could i do to safely...

The best i can describe them is little specs. They are too small to photograph. I wish i had a mgnifying glass!! ....just googled planaria.... they dont have any length to them...

So ive seen a few posts about tiny bugs that people deduce are copepods...but their description seems a bit larger than what im seeing. Ive got quite a few little white bugs, crawling on the inside of the glass, and on plant leaves....i cant see them in the rocks, cuz my rocks are also white...

Yes i added a little over a tsp for a 2.5g after i took about 1/3 of the medicated water out since he was acting funny. Do i just continue to replace whatever i take out when i do my pwc's?

Well today he is much better. I think he was stressed from all the changes. He can relax now tho cuz i wont change his scenery for a while. :) Hes much more active and lively this morning, but i am seeing more fin breakage, and curling.... Baaah! I hope it stops before all his prettiness is...

It has faded to a faint pink today....and its all crinkly.... ( I dont know why its crooked!!!) And yay about cycling i was told i couldnt do it in such a small tank! Im gonna try it :)

Ooook, so upon closer examination of his fins i decided its probly fin rot..... So i went and got a carbonless filter, and bettamax. I completely cleaned the tank, and drip acclimated him to the medicated water. About an hour later he's just laying on the bottom like hes resting, and coming up...

So, just to clarify, (i have dosed bettafix) it is ok to add a little aqu. salt along with the medication?

So my crown tail betta got some of his fringes bitten off by another fish, and a few look like they are hanging on but a little shredded....well now one of those bits has turned bright red. And his fins are white, so you could see why i find it strange!! Anyways, i dont know what this means...
