Help needed identifying sickness and with treatment.

Hi, I bought a german Balloon Ram 1.5 weeks ago, and the day he was introduced, he didn't seem very happy. Over the next few days he didn't begin to thrive and my son accidentally flipped the power bar switch while I was at work, making matters worse by cutting power to the heater. The tank...

    Balloon Ram with burns?

Hi, I just got a German Balloon Ram a few days ago that's been hiding in the back of the tank near the heater zone. I noticed yesterday that it had a bump of white skin above it's top lip, and today I notice a few white patches on it's tail fin, and pectoral fin. is this most likely a heater...

Suggestions for a less "messy" substrate??

Hi, I currently have a 6G tank with a Fluval Stratum bottom. If I move a plant, or take one out to clean it off, the re-planting is a nightmare. The water gets very messy as the stratum breaks down into mud in the area that it's disrupted. The plants are doing well, but the muddy water settles...

    Cycle issue/oddity... can you help?

I've been cycling for about 4 weeks now and am using the API master test kit. I have ammonia that keeps falling from 4ppm to 1ppm every 24hrs, and the nitrates are now building each day, but I have yet to actually see any nitrites, according to the test. it just stays the same light blue...

Can I use this wood in my tank?

Hi, I bought a piece of wood from my lfs today that was in the lizard section. The owner was told by the Hagen rep that it was safe for aquariums but needed to get soaked to stay submerged. I'm just wondering about rot over time because it seems like it's more of a "bush" wood then a hardwood...

    Dry starting....good idea?

I've been reading about dry starts and it seems to have lots of pros with this method, are there any cons that are associated with this method? I like that it gets good plant growth and you end up with a "cycled" tank once the water is added, but I am weary.... Thoughts?

Any further recommendations to my plan?

Hi, So I'm going to be starting a 6g Fluval Edge soon, and I'm trying to do as much info gathering and research before I start. What I know at this point is u don't want to get too involved and like to keep it relatively simple with respect to co2 and crazy dosing. I will have LED lights, but...

    Tank cleaning questions

So I'm going to be starting a 6G Fluval Edge nano tank, and am unfamiliar with what will be need for tank maintenance aside pwc's, algae scraping and filter cleaning. I see some amazing aquascapes with plants rooted in the substrate and it makes me wonder how one goes about vacuuming the...

    6 Gal tank stocking questions

I'm going to be setting up a 6G Fluval Edge tank and according to the various calculators, it says that i can have 20" of fish, which seems to be more than I expected for this size. I came from SW, which would be 5" in the same size tank. So, I'm thinking: - 5-6 Celestial Pearl Danios - 2 Red...
