Man I didnt think it would be so hard to get another impellar. The LFS's don't have them. Telling me its going to take a couple of weeks. I hate it when you call a place and ask if they have something and they don't then they say "but I can order it for you!". I just wanna say "No kidding...

Check out the DIY forums both here and at reefcentral.com. There are plenty of projects people have done to give you tons of ideas for stands or anything else. As far as the overflow goes it is really up to you. The advantages of having the mega-flow system is it is all inside your tank which...

Should I use teflon tape on pump in sump?

I need to put a barb fitting on the output of my Mag pump that is going to be in my sump. Typically teflon tape is used to prevent the threaded connection from leaking. I am leary of using it as the pump will be submerged in the sump and I am afraid the tape will contaminate the water...

Brenden, Do you think a Mag 9 will heat up my 70gal rr and soon to be sump which I think is going to be 29gal.? Also, Dave did you take into consideration any valves and elbows involved when calculating head pressure? According to the head loss calc over at ReefCentral a mag9 will flow about...

ro waste water vs. my wife

The waste water is produced by the RO part of the system. My understanding is that upto 75% of the water that passes through the unit will be rejected by the RO membrane. The water that is rejected is diverted to the drain. HTH, -Eric

1.5yr old DSB sand - can it be transferred to a new tank?

well I did it... got an Oceanic 70RR. Went ahead and used some of the old sand. I had quite a bit in the 65. The trim on the oceanic is smaller so all that sand would not have looked right. It is 3-4 inches deep. Nope, sand looks nice a clean. Amazing to see what was actually in the...

1.5yr old DSB sand - can it be transferred to a new tank?

I have a 4-5in sand bed that has been in my 65 for about a year and a half. I want to change the tank out to a reef ready tank and I am wondering if the sand could be used in the new tank as the DSB? It seems there is some concern about disturbing the DSB and letting out some bad stuff...

    Grand scheme! - sump plan

I will have the sump up on a workbench which is pretty high off the floor.. about 4'. The house is old and is not constructed like todays homes. The garage ceiling is 8' that is were I come up with 8-10' of head. So I'll plan on 12' considering T's, elbows and bends. Most of the reef ready...

    Grand scheme! - sump plan

Ahh thanks Steve for the telling me how to fix the attachment problem. Hmm.. maybe the garage is not the best idea then. We do use it to store the car but it is only occasionally used. 2 or 3 times a week. The car is NEVER run with the garage door closed. I'm thinking the sump may be safer...
