    Algae will not go away

i used to have pretty bad algae probs, but now that I've introduced 6 hrs on/2 hrs off/6 hrs on/12 hrs off timer for my light I have negligible algae growth. This is supposed to be helpful b/c the more primitive photosynthetic process of the algae cannot adequately cope with an interrupted...

uh oh.....did I get the wrong size?

Ok, did some research and I def messed up. If you want to capitalize on my mistake go to ebay and save yourself some $ at my expense. I hate learning the hard way.

uh oh.....did I get the wrong size?

I just received my new coralife lunar aqualight for my 29 gallon tank. I ordered a 24" setup b/c I had used 24" lights for my previous light system. My 29 gallon tank is 30" long. I have the legs coming in the mail, but have no idea how they're supposed to fit. (they look like they...

    Scratches

jeez. 8O I've only got a 29 gallon. I'd rather buy a whole new tank before I put that kind of work into a few scratches. Thanks for the site Casimir. 0X

    Cherry Barbs

I think you're right and that she's mistaking them w/ tiger barbs. I don't think that cherry barbs are as agressive and that they're relatively peaceful.

    planting instructions?

yeah, you have to separate and plant each stem. Pain in the butt and you'll get lots of "floaters" until they develop roots, but you'll really like how it looks after you're done. nice tool. i've been trying to find a nice clipper on arms and wasn't able to find one at my lfs.

Want to add more barbs ? problem ?

I tried to add green barbs to my tiger barb collection and found in my research that green barbs are actually tiger barbs, just a different........well.......i guess race. So I expected them to get along fine, but I've had bad luck recently trying to introduce new fish to my tank and all 3 of...

    heater went haywire

if you're already down to 85, I would take care to let it continue to drop on it's own w/o any more interventions. No need to make the fish go through more stress.

Why does my pH keep rising?

    Hey, thanks Menagerie! :thumb:

Why does my pH keep rising?

I think you misunderstood. adding plants won't lower your pH. In fact, it will likley raise the pH b/c of the consumption of CO2. It's the addition of CO2 through a CO2 injector that will lower your pH. Before you do anything, you need to get your KH up so see where it is and take it from...

Why does my pH keep rising?

are you doing frequent water changes? Sometimes, if you do a large water change and the CO2 concentration in the tap is high, the pH will rise as the CO2 equilibrates with the atmosphere. This can be diminished by having a good buffering capacity in your water. What's your KH? Having a KH...

    Huge snail problem

I have a couple of upside down catfish that delicately removed snails I accidentally introduced via plants. You could try those and keep them as permanent inhabitants. They're small, delicate with plants, like to eat snails and are cute and fun to watch. :)

    slow biowheel!!

a problem that could be happening is that you're accumulating a significant amount of bacterial growth toward the center of the biowheel. That would result in more leverage being needed to rotate the wheel on it's axis. And since your biowheels fins aren't getting any longer and the output of...

    Contaminated water?

e coli is a bacteria. It's sitting in your gut as you sit and read this post, but it's kept in check by a variety of factors including your immune system. You can get a GI poisoning from e. coli by eating undercooked meats. It can become a water contaminant, but is usually kept at low levels...

    Contaminated water?

I don't see how dechlorinator will rid the tank of E. coli. In fact, a likely reason that you have e.coli in the water is b/c your water isn't being effectively chlorinated. I've read that Easy-Life is effective in reducing e. coli counts though. You could try that out. Outside of this...

    Bad luck with fish

All my other fish are fine and all have voracious appetites. It didn't look like a growth b/c the white area was flush with his skin. It more or less looked like an area that was more pale than the surrounding skin. (The pics suck, I know. I need to find a way to post on the web b/c whenever...

    Bad luck with fish

I'm having very bad luck with fish lately. I've completely cycled my tank and my initial inhabitants are all doing very well. 3 tiger barbs, 4 angelfish and 2 upside down catfish. After the cycle I added 4 glass catfish of whom 3 died during treatment for the ich they introduced. I continued...

How to inspire my Snowball Pleco

I recently purchased a Snowball Pleco with the hopes that he would clean all the algae from my glass. The lfs owner was ranting and raving about how the plecs are voracious when it comes to algae. (Reminded me of the commercial with the group of scrub brushes that run all over the bathroom...
