Okay so looks like I'm not going with live sand! Especially since I'm putting plants also.

I'm starting a small tank and currently I have no substrate in it. I like the way live sand looks so that's what's going in. I was wondering, will the live organisms dying help the tank cycle?

The water movement from airstones also helps with oxygen. I leave mine on for that reason.

Hey guys. I tried feeding my cichlids dried shrimp and frozen bloodworms. But since they like the bottom of the tank, they won't really go up top to eat the floating food. Any ideas on how to keep it at the bottom?

I call this one Blue. Lol one of my favorites. I just love the color! I also have two yellow labs and a jewel.

The yellow one is an Electric Yellow Lab. But idk about the grey looking one. Too blurry! My Jewel Cichlid use to be grey so maybe its a Jewel. Not 100% though.

So having a couple fish will help feed the inverts? And ill be sure to look into the different kinds of inverts. I definitely want inverts to be the main animals. Do you guys have any recomendations for websites to buy the live rock?

Yea you should wait for a little while before adding more. Your toxic levels will be through the roof if you add more before it cycles. And bettas are not very tolerant, in my experience, with ammonia spikes. When I had a betta, I had 2 cory cats and 3 zebra danios with it.

It'll just be an invert tank. I'm not planning on putting fish since its so small. When I introduce animals, I was thinking about starting with peppermint shrimps or blue legged hermits. And I was gonna get 20lbs of rock and sand. I'm not sure how much ill use though.

I won't be using sump right now. When I get a little experienced I will though. Right now, I'm planning to house a couple clown fish. Maybe some coral. But not too many.
