Anyone ever use one of these or have any interest in setting up a group buy? Someone started one on ARC yesterday that seemed to generate a lot of interest. Apparently these wave makers work really well for a lot less money than the other leading brands. Shipping costs are what get you since...

    White Tail Bristletooth Tang

I remember you mentioning you were interested in one. I then looked it up on LA and knew I had to have one for myself. I started to do my own research on it. I called LA directly which wasn't much help. I even searched several forums/sites and although a few people claim to have seen them or...

    White Tail Bristletooth Tang

Anyone have any luck tracking down a White Tail Bristletooth Tang? I noticed there have been a few posts on here recently about that one tang in particular. Apparently, a lot of people saw it for the first time on LiveAquaria however it seems they've been out-of-stock for awhile. Very curious to...

    One more cycle question

Thanks for asking. I checked Around 6:00am this morning (about 11 hours after I added the ammonia) and ammonia showed 0 ppm but nitrite was around 1ppm. I'm sure they'll both be at zero when I get home (within 24hours of adding ammonia) I was thinking I'd add ammonia to 4ppm one last time then...

    One more cycle question

I'm taking your advice and just added more ammonia to 4ppm (both levels were at 0ppm when I got home but it had been close to 36 hours since the last time I added ammonia to 4ppm). I'll check it again later this evening and tomorrow morning. I'm sure I'll notice my ammonia reading go down pretty...

Thank you, that's what I needed to know.

    One more cycle question

Just so I'm clear, if I dose ammonia up to 4ppm, regardless of how long I wait to test the water I should show no signs of nitrites?

    One more cycle question

I've been doing a fishless cycle using pure ammonia for over three weeks. I check my levels daily sometimes twice a day (my wife thinks I have issues). Anyway, for days I've been making sure to dose my ammonia level to as close to 4ppm as I can get. Within 24 hours, ammonia reads zero. Nitrites...

    Seeking help with air bubbles

Thought I'd add some photos of my bubble problem and set up to see if anyone else can think of what might be the issue..

    Seeking help with air bubbles

92g tank. Protein skimmer does release water near the gasket in the sump that connects to the return pump. The return pump sits on the outside of the sump and the top of the pump is around the same height as the water inside the sump.

    Seeking help with air bubbles

I placed a piece of sponge filter in front of the hole in the sump for the return line and it did help some but I'm still getting an occasional bursts of air bubbles blown into the rank from the return

    Seeking help with air bubbles

I'm using a 700gph mag drive type pump that runs in-line (using hose not pvc) from the sump to the bottom of the tank. The tank has a built in overflow box. The protein skimmer sits in the sump in addition to some live rock. There are two ball valves attached to the return line. One before the...

    Seeking help with air bubbles

My return is pumping so many air bubbles into the tank that the water almost appears cloudy. What's the best way to figure out what's causing the air bubbles and how can I get rid of them?

    Sort of new

I too have always had a passion for "all things underwater" but I've always been more of a fan of the saltwater variety. In my opinion, Marine fish are much more sensative to water/living conditions than freshwater fish however their variety and appearence certainly make up for the extra work...

    FOWLR or Reef w/Fish?

I'm three weeks into my fishlish cycle and have started to think about what fish to start off with. I'm not sure if I'm going fish only or a combination of fish and corals. The good news is, I've been reading a book on Marine fish and all my favorites so far are reef compatible. Can I add...

    Cycling with shrimp

It's been a week since initial set-up and I've added 3 decent sized shrimps to the filter and 3 directly to my 92g tank. I added the shrimp yesterday as I wasn't getting the ammonia spike I was looking for and noticed I went from .5ppm to 2ppm overnight. I also had my first nitrite reading at...

    Ammonia mystery

Thanks everyone for the help. I just tested some fresh ro/di water I made yesterday that had been sitting overnight in the same plastic drum I used a week ago and ammonia reads 0 ppm. That said, the only element that could've caused ammonia readings in the salt water I mixed up last week...

    Ammonia mystery

that's my point, I have ammonia and nitrates but no nitrites. It's like the process skipped a step somehow.

    Ammonia mystery

to add to my issues, my tank is reading ammonia at .50ppms and nitrates at around 20ppm but all my nitite readings have been at 0ppm. How can this be? For what it's worth, I am using Stability to help the cycle process along and I realize it's only been a week now. I just think it's odd how I've...

    Ammonia mystery

I'm using an API test kit I just purchased. Not sure about the container being FDA approved but I'm making some ro/di water now and will test the water before I add any salt. I've been reading over some older threads and saw some posts that say some salts actually contain traces of ammonia. What...

    Ammonia mystery

After performing several tests, I've come to realize that the 100g of salt water I made recently contains traces of ammonia, .25ppm to be exact. I've already used this water to fill my 92g tank last week. I obvioulsy expected to have ammonia readings in the tank a week later but I didn't expect...
