    Clown Loaches Comparability

believe me, it'll not be quick. but i agree that they might tax the bioload a little bit more than desired. and clowns are definitely not messy eaters. they clean up the bottom till it shines like a mirror  .

    Emersed growth advice?

i love the homegrown types :) . i frequent a store here who has tons of info on breeding fish and more importantly, cichlids. anyway, back to the point. i think rockwool works well with growing most plants to a point where they need a better substrate. but i'm not sure if the emersed growth of...

    Emersed growth advice?

after a few googles, it seems if extruded styrofoam is used, its impervious to water. however, expanded styrofoam would degrade slowly in contact with water. i think the 2" styro usually used in these projects are extruded styro from lowe's etc hardware stores.

    Poll: Keeping Discus Fish

you are right macman. maybe i'm just overthinking :) . but i do have the majority on my side - "They are nice looking but seem to be hard to care for 26% [ 6 ]" just kidding  .

    Question about acclimating fish

i used drip acclimation from my main tank for about half-an-hour when i received mail order fish about a week ago. they are all doing fine :) . i don't use such drastic measures while acclimating fish from my lfs.

Biggest loach never comes out anymore

i'm having the same problem with my loaches. i had 4 in a 40g. after moving them to a 75g, the largest 2 have become shy or lazy. they come out only during feeding time. the tank has numerous hiding places, so i'm guessing that's not a problem. i'm not sure, but i think giving it some more...

    Poll: Keeping Discus Fish

thanks for the tips macman :). i'd possibly be buying juvies (unless somehow i get extremely rich overnight). i definitely want to watch my fish grow, which is why i bought all my mbuna as juvies. and i saw the pheromones in action among my gouramis. but, this is definitely not sometime in...

    Pale yellow labs.

to stress malkore and macman's comments, i'd like to quote Neil, toirtis' friend, who IMO, is an authority on the subject - this was taken from the following thread - http://www.cichlid-forum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=89428

    Poll: Keeping Discus Fish

hmm, 3x a week is still possible, considering i'm doing pwc's every other day in my yellow-lab fry tank. but that's mainly because i want them to grow asap. i know that weekly pwc's would be enough. but with discus, neglecting pwc's doesn't seem healthy to me. and there's the problem - i'd...

that is one neat setup. i love it. clear and crisp.

    Poll: Keeping Discus Fish

i do, but 2 factors are keeping me away from them at the time being - daily pwc's and prohibitive costs. if and when i can design an automated water-change system, i'll definitely give them a try. for the time time-being, i'm enamored with mbuna.

2 Mystery Cichlids and tank pics

i'd have to disagree with stuart... the yellow stripes is a melanochromis chipokae, distinguished by the tail. it is one of the most aggressive species among mbuna, even surpassing auratus. look out for its sex. the blue one is a melanochromis cyaneorhabdos (possibly). i do not want to say...

    CO2 and filter

adding to qtoffer's info, AC filters can handle co2 easily, i used airline reducers to break the larger bubbles at the intake.

    Emersed growth advice?

don't worry about the concrete, i'm sure it'll be rock-hard when it cures. don't dump too much of a softening agent. i heard of someone's concrete falling off after using too much vinegar. can't help you with the piping, i've no experience with sumps  . as to planting, once the lights...
