Instead of the lfs for battery operated pumps try a local tackle shop. They usually have them for minnow buckets or other live bait. Do NOT go for the cheap battery operated pump by tsunami. I run a tackle business and refuse to distribute them anymore.

If it's not bacterial bloom which should clear up by itself, have you tried purigen? I love the way my fish look like they are flying through air instead of swimming in the water.

I have a 3 gallon bucket and a 30 gallon tank. It took me a while to find the right bucket to do water changes. My soon to be setup 20 gallon has a 2 gallon bucket waiting.

I don't know about the filters but do you have a dollar tree near you? They have pure ammonia (not as undiluted as the ACE brand) but that would work and it's only a buck.
