Mixed reviews here...have been told by many to use lace rock; others just your basic river rock/shale. Any one have any buffering advantages? Is this even needed if you buffer your water each time at the time of a water change? Also heard you need tons of caves to keep them happy.

I was told by someone to simply add bicarb to increase ph and epson salt to provide magnesium. The local fish store is telling me I need to trace elements in there and salt mix. What are your suggestions?

I'm looking to do about a 1/2" over all but had planned on adding this after the rocks were in. I'm not so concerned with them coming down. I'm not really planning on doing too much stacking. It's the rock physically on the glass that concerns me.

Is it ok to stack rocks on a bare bottom tank vs having an 1" or 2 of sand/gravel for cushion?

I think those would not only get the salvini's out of hiding, but I'm pretty sure the Hyphessobrycon anisitsi would wind up dead quickly. You don't think that would be the case?
