    Boyd's Chemi Pure Elite

Chemi pure elite is Awsome! I just started using Chemi Pure Blue in two tanks. It comes with a purigen like substance already in the bag. Sent from my iPad using Aquarium Advice

Seachem Prime or Top Fin Ammonia Remover?

Prime, no doubt! Prime vs. top fin is like comparing a Ferrari to a Ford Focus! Sent from my iPad using Aquarium Advice

    How would you spend $500?

If you had $500 dollars to spend on a tank, how would you spend it? Tank, equipment, lighting, stocking, etc?

    Superstorm Sandy Effects

I too live in PA and was without power for a week. My tank went from 76 to 60. I only lost a Oto catfish. I was very fortunate because I could not get power to my tank.

    Seachem Stability

    29 gallon starter kits?

Probably an aqueon kit. They are decent. I would go the Marineland route. They come with LED lights with a day and night mode. Aqueon and Marineland are both good. I just liked the fact that I got led lights.

    Adding additional media to filter?

I added biomax to my Marineland filter for another place for the BB to grow. I was not 100% sold on the bio wheel lasting very long. If it breaks at least I know I have the bio-max in the filter as well.

    Water changes once cycled?

I have to agree. Everyone seems to forget that this forum is titled "Getting Started". It is not titled "Aquarium experts with multiple tanks". All of the info I give is to someone I assume is not sleeping and watching their fish tank 24/7. The original question was for water changes for a new...

    Water changes once cycled?

You definitely want to keep up on weekly 25% water changes. When you test your water, try to keep your nitrates below 40ppm. Your fish can tolerate this level. If your nitrates are above this number do water changes until you reach 40.

    New 10 gallon tank help

I would stay away from the neon and cardinals to do a fish in cycle. Dwarf gouramis are good. They get a bad rap. IMO they are great fish that are pretty hardy. Stay away from putting two in the same tank. They are similar to the betta fish that can breath water from the surface. Gouramis can...

New 25 Gal Tank: Setup and Stocking?

Dwarf gouramis are good, they have a bad rep though. I would advise you to only put one in a tank. They can be aggressive in pairs. They have the labyrinth organ which allows they to breath air from the surface. The rams require more water care, however are not impossible to keep.

New 25 Gal Tank: Setup and Stocking?

I would look into the Marineland led kits. For around the same money you can have led lighting. The led lighting has a day and night feature which is really cool. They have a 29 gallon set. Comes with a good filter and heater. I love the one I have. The Aqueon kit is decent, however, I believe...

AC 50 Extra Bio Max or Sponge

If your tank is established, get some Seachem purigen. The stuff is fantastic.

How long did it take to cycle your tank?

Water from an established tank will help you jump start your tank, however you will still have some time to cycle your own tank. Imo you would be better off using your own water. Most lfs water is not the best even with expensive filtration systems. Most lfs aquariums have two many fish, dead...

How long did it take to cycle your tank?

So far my fish have showed no negative signs. I have plenty of air flow in the tank and surface movement. I have the temp up a little to encourage bb growth.

How long did it take to cycle your tank?

I am still doing water changes every week. Most recently last night. I was doing water changes every day for about a week until I talked to someone from Seachem. He told me to do less water changes so I did not slow down the bb process. He said to use Prime every 24 hours and trust that my fish...

How long did it take to cycle your tank?

Fishin cycle. Tank has been up since 8/22/12. No ammonia, nitrites and nitrates high. Using prime every 24 hours to detox nitrites. Fish are all doing well.

    Cycling Question

Prime can be used as a "band aid" to detoxify the nitrites in your water so it is not toxic to your fish. It wears off at about 24 hours.

How long did it take to cycle your tank?

In the middle of cycling my first tank. I just want to hear from others on how look it took them. Also, any help on how to get the nitrite bb going would be helpful.

    Nitrite Cycle Question

My tank has been cycling for just over a month now. I have had no ammonia readings for at least two weeks, however nitrites are high (expected). Doing daily water changes to see the numbers go down slightly. Using Prime to condition water along with Stability. My question is how long does it...

    Fluval Q2 Question??

I like the feature of an adjustable flow rate on the Fluval Q2 air pump, however I am going to be using it on a 20 gallon tank. It is rated up to 160 gallons. Can I use this on a 20 gallon?
