After my $4000 tank build, $450 first water bill, $200 in salt, $??? In testing kits and whatever else needed to get the water parameters right, and $800-$1000 in fish, I would love to take a mortgage out on my house for an awesome fish:)

Sorry I mentioned the size of he tank in the previous post. I forgot I put it in the one before hand. I've had a rough day dealing with the flu:(

I want to build a sump

I'm sorry to sound "needy", but this is all new stuff for me. What kind of stuff would I need to build it? Does any one have any good links to other threads or websites that have DIY instructions on this stuff? Sumps are new to me. Im used to the HOB filters, but I doubt one of those would...

    Bichirs

Thanks for the info:). I really want to put one to an Oscar tank I want to build (hopefully next year). It seems that they say at the bottom/hide a lot, so the oscars shouldn't really pay attention to them. I can't really find info on preferred water conditions, but I assume about the same as...

I want to build a sump

I'm looking to build a sump in the future for an Oscar tank. Dimensions are 73"x27"x27"(215 gallon). It's going to be constructed of 12mm acrylic. The stock is going to be 4 oscars, 1 black banded, 1 pleco, and 3 jurupari earth eaters. Any help on this would be awesome. Thanks:)

    Bichirs

Was at a pet smart and saw a dinosaur bichir. The employees could only really tell me that they got really big 14-18". And they are very aggressive. I've usually found the info I get from there is generally wrong. Anyone have any good info on them? I can't find much on the Internet about them.

    Stocking ideas

I defiantly will. I'm going to take a few years and do research on everything I'm going to put in the tank. The jewel tang is definitely something I would love to get. I don't understand why they cost so much. I saw a few people who spent 1000 each, others 3000.

By my understanding, I want to do reef. I would like some corals in it. I really like the plant life, but I don't want to get too extravagant with the decor.

    I love my fish!

I absolutely love my fish! I'm on vacation in Mexico, and no one here understands my obsession with wanting to snorkel and see the reefs (I know, not salt water thread, but there is no one with me who understands). I also love the fish that are in my 45 gallon, and in my parents 55gallon. I...

    Stocking ideas

Money is really not an option when it come to stocking. I want to do it right when it comes to keeping healthy fish. I really like the coloration of the dwarf angels too. Another though, kind of off topic, how do I find out if these fish are reef safe? Will it say it in the description of the...

    Stocking ideas

These are all great ideas. I really new to saltwater. I've been told that it easier to start a saltwater tank in a large tank vs a small tank. I've had quite a bit of experience with fresh water: Cichlids, community fish, plating. I'm hoping this will have more of a challenge.

    Stocking ideas

As I snorkel in the reefs of Cancun, I realize I want a saltwater tank. My wife really wants a kole tang, so I want to build a tank for her in a few years. (Going to do a lot of research on everything before i start building.) I was wondering, what kind of fish mates can happily live with a...

    Fish suppliers??

Idk if this the right forum to go to, but couldn't find an "appropriate" thread. I'm looking into opening my own "lfs" in the neighborhood. I've surveyed my area and I have a possible location set. I'm looking for a supplier or a few suppliers for fish, tanks, filters, and the other...

    Grumpy betta

He's a crown tail. The previous few we're all dragon scale half moon betas. I didn't think there would be a temperament difference.

    Grumpy betta

I understand that. My parents put a beta in with their guppies and he acts like a normal fish. Same with the beta I had for a few years before this one. I thought I was having a good streak of happy betas, but this one has proven me wrong.
