About the apple snail keeping the 12 cycled, I believe it will but it would probably be good to add another one. I cycled my 10 gallon tank with just one diffusa apple snail in exactly a month.

Ok, thanks! It has 4, plus the thing for the sponges. I was actually wrong about the 50g, it IS cycled! I hadn't tested the water until yesterday so I was assuming it was still uncycled.

Back to one of my original questions.. Will the filter sponges still be good to use? Or should I buy new ones? Can I use quilt batting as an alternative to the sponges?

I asked him, he says they are BN :)

I just have one more question for now. Is there a way to determine if they are bristlenose or common plecos?

I dumped them through a fine sifter, and it only took me about an hour and a half to get them all out haha. To my surprise there were only 4 dead ones. Here are just a portion of the fish: Thank you for your help jetajockey!

Okay, so just to be clear there are literally around 100 of these little babies. I was thinking about it and It seems like the 5.5 would be really crowded for them. Here is what my 50g looks like: I am going to look for a intake cover or I'll improvise with some poly fill.

The pond snails are IN the 5.5 gallon. I actually found some time to go out but I couldn't find another sponge filter. Will the survive in the 50g? Can I cover the intake with some poly fill? Or is there something else you're supposed to cover it with?
