I'm making a betta tank for my moms office for christmas.
I think I've decided to use the Marina s10 filter and a fluval m50 heater.
I have a glass versa top for it, but I've had a really had time finding a light fixture. I found the Exo-Terra compact flourescent canopies, so I was wondering if I could use that for it.

I would get the small size which is 17.7" x 3.5" x 7.8" which means it might hang off the edge a bit and would cover almost the whole top of the aquarium. Will this work alright? It takes 2 compact 26W bulbs. If it is alright to use this canopy, what bulb should I use with it? Is this too much light?

I'm planning on having a layer of Fluval Plant Stratum and cap it with a layer of fine gravel. I want to plant the tank heavily, so suggestions for plants would be appreciated.

I was kinda thinking that. I'm concerned about how that will look, and will that be enough light for plants that require medium light?

If you have the room for it to go behind the tank, and the lamp is tall enough, I think it would be fine. I use two on my 10 gallon. You should be able to grow almost anything with the right bulb.

Clip on desk lamps from Walmart. Bulbs are 13 watt daylight 6500k cfls. You can pick any desk lamp that takes bulbs and would fit/look good.
