    putting betta to sleep???

As odd as this may seem, try putting a mirror beside his tank, so he can see his reflection. My betta was acting the same way, and he was bored. I let him play with the mirror for about an hour a day, and he's brightened up, frisky...and when the space became available I put him in my 40 gal and...

    Serpae Tetra Ill

MM. One of my Serpae Tetras has been hiding, and when he came out earlier, he's pale, and there's a good chunk taken out of his side. He won't sit still long enough for me to get a good look, but it looks like he hit something that tore out a chunk....or one of his tankmates got really hungry...

    Questions about misc items

Thanks for the replies. I couldn't find any decent information on the Python, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Seems like everyone likes it then. I use Jungle brand declorinator...called Start Right...mostly because we have always used it, and it seems to work pretty well. How's this...

    Do you name your fish?

I name all my bettas, because they are so personable. I currently have Samhain, whom is black, orange and white, and my puffers (Puffy and Amiyui), and I frequently name my plecos (past ones have included Freak, Turbo, and Godzilla). Beyond that, I think naming them kills them. *Gryns* That's...

    Questions about misc items

Greetings. I may be posting this in the wrong spot, and if so, I apologize. But I have a couple of questions. 1) What is the test kit most of you recommend? I've gotten conflicting answers, so I don't know. Some say tablets, others swear by drops, yet more preach about the strips. 2) I am...

    dwarf puffer

I recently purchased some dwarf puffers too, so we can learn together! I have noticed that mine LOVE to hunt snails...I'm actually trying to find information on breeding the hitch-hiker snails because Puffy is going through them like crazy. She also loves brine shrimp (which is what the LFS was...

    Puffer for a newbie?

Greetings. I was orginally going to get a dwarf freshwater puffer, but saw some greenspotted and figure 8 puffers at the lfs today. I have an empty 5 gallon, and DON'T want saltwater fish. I've never done brackish water. Should I stick with the dwarf, or try the others? What advice can...

    Uh-oh...did I do bad?

I thought there was another that was a fruity name and not dyed...but I can't remember the name. Anyway, I messed up the image above, so here is a link...can you tell me if this fish is painted? http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/strataangel85/detail?.dir=/d244&.dnm=1d3dre2.jpg&.src=ph I have...

    Pleco question ...

Godzilla used to hang off the light cover inside the tank, with about half his body underwater, to get to the algae on the cover. Beyond that, I'm not sure why they 'gulp'....

    HELP!

*hugs* I am so very sorry for your loss. In some counties now, fish are considered animals and this sort of thing can be considered animal abuse/cruelty. You might want to check with local authorities. I hope you get a new one! So sorry again...

    Uh-oh...did I do bad?

They list the fish "HoneyBlueberry Gourami" as a painted....is this what fish I got? My digital camera is down otherwise I would post a pic. I fed them brine shrimp today, and they ate quite a bit, and are seemingly healthy, they are swimming and exploring, so I'm hoping they are okay. Has...

male guppy try to mate with female molly

I know that swordtails and mollies can interbreed, can guppies and mollies? That could either be some really pretty fry or some really UGLY fry.... Are their colorings the same? He might be confused, thinking she is a guppy!

    Are corys good algea eaters?

I have a spotted cory and he doesn't eat the algae, but neither do my panda, albino, or green cories...Congrats on getting a hungry one!!

Big question . . .what if I want to change my whole tank?

Question....how do you clean sand? For gravel, you can use a gravel syphon to get out the muck, but wouldn't sand go up the syphon? Sorry, I've always wondered about that.

    HELP!

Oh my....kick his @$$!!! I would aerate the water really well ( read somewhere that that helps dispell the alcohol), and keep up with water changes. Best of luck!! Hope he pulls through. P.S. If I were you, I'd change the locks. Talking from experience here. Takes about 10 minutes per door...

    Uh-oh...did I do bad?

Okay. The lfs had a buy 2 get 1 free sale. Had to stop in, of course. They had a tank of 'honey and blueberry gouramis"...about an inch long, very active, and beautiful colors. They are an amber color with a navy blue patch beween the back and tail fins, blending into the sides of the fish. I...

Getting otos on Wednesday, any advice?

Thanks guys. So it pretty much seems to be hit or miss on the apparent deaths? I just wanted to be safe that I was not overcrowding the otos on grazing areas, or if they were territorial. I will call the lfs tomorrow and see if they can still tack on some more otos. I've ordered 2, would...

Getting otos on Wednesday, any advice?

Hey. I ordered two otos for a 40 gallon tank covered in algae, and will be here Wednesday. (I order them through a lfs that does not stock live animals, but there is a fish breeder in town that every monday they order their fish, and he drops them off Wednesday on his way into work). I didn't...

Advantages and disadvantages to a tall tank?

I think the biggest problem is getting oxygen to the bottom of the tank. Air pumps tend to wear out pretty quick with tall tanks...but go with the 90 gallon....it's bigger, meaning you can hold more pretty fishies!!

    Is an undergravel filter necessary

In my experience, undergravel filters are just a big pain...I don't even use it when my 5 gallon is hooked up for fry. Aquaclear seems to be a pretty good brand, and if it's for a smaller gallon tank, Whisper has been my hob of choice. Whisper also has an in-tank filter now, so there's nothing...

    Corydoras getting territorial??

Um....strike me as a silly newbie...but how do I tell if they are male and female? Also, aren't cory's hard to breed?

    Corydoras getting territorial??

Greetings. I have 4 corydoras...two have hit it off really well, and are best buds. They feed together, play tag all the time (or at least I was told it was tag and not chasing), and seem awfully chummy. They have recently decided that the sunken log decoration is their 'territory' and will...

    Tetra acting funny...please help

Well, here's a (unfortunate) update. When I got home from work, he was still funky and gasping, and would go into convulsions. I euthinized him tonight...he didn't fight being netted at all, and seemed to go quietly.

    Tetra acting funny...please help

(note to self, update profile! 8O ) I did donate Godzilla....he topped out at 14 inches at the time I donated him...and they were thrilled!! I now have a Purevian Leopard Pleco....that i never see... Anyway, back to the tetra. Here's my parameters: pH: 6.0 NitrItes: 0 ppm NitrAtes: 60 ppm...

    Tetra acting funny...please help

Greetings. I have a school of 4 senea tetras...only one is affected by this. Last night he started swimming head up, tail down vertically. This morning, he'd swim for a bit, then lay down on the gravel gasping. I put him in a breeder container, and added some stress coat, but I can't find...
