    Are closed loop systems obsolete?

Hi All, I'm planning my next build and I've got just about everything figured out except...circulation. Is anyone using closed loop systems any more or have the new high flop prop pumps made these a thing of the past? I like the idea of a clean looking tank without a bunch of power heads but...

    Opinions wanted for new build

Hi All I am planning out my next tank build. I'll be upgrading from an 85g Tall to a 120 -180, not decided on size yet. I'm currently running a FOWLR, but looking to get back in to reeling once the new tank is running and stable. I have a few questions and would like to get as much insight as...

    Too many fish???

I think you are safe with the two Tangs... I've kept two blue, a yellow, a purple, and a sailfin tang in my 80 gal with no problems. I think Tangs grow only as large as the tank can support. Just arrange your rock work so there are lots of caves and tunnels as well as free space above or in...

    **Overflow Issue** HELP!!

Good find... When you fix it make sure you use aquarium safe RTV. Also check out that triangular piece in your return plumbing. I'd have to guess its a check valve since it isn't a SQWD. If it's a check valve you are in good shape, if it isn't I'd highly recommend putting one in.

    Quick question - Cyanobacteria

I had a bad Cyano problem a few months ago. Im always afraid to use any of the red slime removers so I go with the manual process (50% water change then scrub every single rock with a tooth brush in the waste water). I then change my PC bulbs and as expected I get an outbreak of hair algae. I...

    **Overflow Issue** HELP!!

I think you are siphoning from your return (the line that pumps water from the sump to main tank). I doubt it is your overflow or drains to the sump. Looking at your plumbing, there is a triangular looking device between the pump and your TEE. Is that a SCWD (Switching Current Water Device) or a...

    Anyone know what this is?

That doesn't look like Aiptasia to me, but it's a little hard to see in that pic. I seem to always have an Aiptasia or two in my tank and they are out all day long.

    Concerned about One Spot Foxface

Thanks for the quick responses... I had a one spot before and I don't remember him acting this way, but he was a large one, especially compared to his tank mates. I am not positive about my ammonia reading. I am color blind which as you can imagine makes the water test hard to interpret. I...

    Substrate Replacement?

Hi All I am new to this forum but I have been in the Salt Water hobby for about 10 years. I have the original substrate in my 10 year old tank. About 5 years ago I added to the substrate to replace some that got lost during water changes and go to a DSB for a wrasse I had. The last year or...

    Concerned about One Spot Foxface

Hi all- I am new to this forum but I've been in the hobby for about 10 years. I have a new addition to my tank, a small One Spot Foxface who has been in my tank a week now. He seems very scared and is almost always hiding behind my LR. He comes out for a few minutes and then darts back...

    Introduction

Hello All I am new to this forum but have been in the hobby for about 10 years. I have an 85 gallon tall with a 20 gallon Sump/Refugium. I have dabbled with coral but I don't seem to have the time to keep up with the needs of most coral. I joined this site to share some of my experiences and...
