Best External Filter for 350L Tank?

There's 1 lever between the inlet/output nozzles which controls the flow through both

Best External Filter for 350L Tank?

I can personally recommend the all pond solutions external filters. I have 2 of them (the 1000EF+ & 2000EF+) and have never had a problem with either. The 2000EF should be more than enough for the tank you mentioned and last time I looked they were £70 or for a tenner more you can get the...

    Poorly neon tetras

If it looks like they're covered in grains of salt its likely to be ich. Gradually raise the tank temp to 31ºc and carry out frequent water changes and substrate cleaning. Keep temp elevated and keep on top of the cleaning regime until at least a week after the last spot disappears. Make sure...

    How is this possible?

I ripped the 3 foot of hose off my gravel vac and stuck on a big length of garden hose so I could just run it straight out of the doors into the drain on my patio.

    Cheap black sand.

I paid £50 for 50 kilos which was by far the cheapest option from my local sources. Its not true black like tahititian moon sand but was considerably cheaper and my fish love it. It wont affect your ph either, or at least, it hasn't affected mine.

    Cheap black sand.

I went with black limpopo sand. Not really a true black, more dark grey when its in the tank but I think it looks great and was pretty reasonably priced. Handy really when you're buying 50 kilos like I had to!

Not familiar with the filter. What's its flow rate? Ideally you want to turn the tank volume over at least 5 or 6 times an hour. If its powerful enough I'd use your external filter as it would remove the need to cycle the new filter, provided its been running continuously up to the switchover.

Did not quarantine long enough I guess

I'm not familiar with the meds you're using but I personally would avoid the meds and salt completely. With loaches being scaleless fish they can be sensitive to ich meds. Temperature alone is enough to treat ich and it's the method I use should ich sneak in to my tank with any new additions...

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

Rescaped tank to make more hiding spots to accommodate group of rainbow sharks I've introduced to hopefully stop the dominant one stressing out the other of the two I acquired with my tank. On a sad note, my GBR didn't make it through the mini cycle sparked by changing the substrate. Didn't...

    Rainbow sharks

Rearranged tank and tried to make as many caves and little hiding spots as I could with what I have. Will need to buy some more plants on payday but so far it seems to be working. The more timid of the original two was venturing out more last night but the juveniles are so small in comparison I...

    Rainbow sharks

Well I've bitten the bullet and just picked up the 4 biggest juveniles in the store. I can see some tank rearranging coming up this evening.

    Rainbow sharks

That's been my experience so far with the two I've acquired but am finding more and more opinion online that a group of 6+ (as with angels, african cichlids etc) spreads any aggression and territoriality (if that is a real word??) out so no one fish is constantly being harassed. How many did...

    Angelfish

Can't find any pics right now (am on my phone) if you search Internet you may find some but when you see them you'll see the difference. If you have a group in your tank once a pair become ready to breed all the angels tubes should become visible. They need to be a reasonable size before they...

    Angelfish

The only reliable way to sex them that I know of is to look at the breeding tubes when they are visible. You'd probably be better off getting a group of say 6 and waiting to see which form a pair and then rehome the others. The female will have a tube that (for want of a better description)...

    Rainbow sharks

Does anyone have any first hand experience of keeping a group of rainbow sharks (also known as ruby sharks or red finned sharks)? I acquired a pair with a tank I bought and have been trying unsuccessfully to rehome 1 as have always been under the impression that they should be kept alone...

    filters???

It's only stuck on with silicone. I used a screwdriver and just (carefully!!!) levered it off the glass and then used a sharp Stanley blade to clean off the silicone stuck to the glass. I've got 8 angelfish 4 clown loaches 9 corydoras (6 sterbai, 3 albino) 1 German blue ram 1 common plec 2...

    filters???

There's pros and cons for both internal & external filters but I personally prefer external. I own a rio 400 and the first thing I did was rip out the filter box as 1: it was useless and 2: it was taking up quite a bit of space in the tank. I now run 2 all pond solutions ef models on my tank...

    GBR Water

Check with your supplier what water they are raised in to begin with. If they are being bred locally in similar water conditions there may be no need to start changing your water chemistry. If they are being bred in soft acidic water and your water is that hard you may want to consider an RO...

Young Clown loaches with tiger barbs

You could look at yoyo loaches, polka dot loaches, there's a few variants of zebra loach (zebra, golden zebra, Chinese golden zebra) to name but a few which would be more suited to your tank size. Follow the link I posted earlier and have a look at all the different species, there's loads to...

Young Clown loaches with tiger barbs

It certainly would be uncommon for a home aquarist to rear a clown to 16inches but it can and does happen. One of my lfs's had a 13 to 14 inch specimen they'd taken in from someone as it had unsurprisingly outgrown its tank and it wasn't ideally housed in their 6x3x2foot display tank. I'm one...

Young Clown loaches with tiger barbs

Apologies, the 18 was a typo, should have read 16 inches. http://www.loaches.com/species-index/clown-loach-chromobotia-macracanthus This site should provide all the info you need on clowns and indeed other loaches.
