    Emaciated juvie discus

Shoot, I'm just seeing these responses now. I'm sorry if I didn't provide enough information, Ky'smommy. I'll go ahead and fill in all of the information below that was posted in the sticky on this forum. Brian, thanks for responding. (I remember you from way back when… I hope you’re...

Pictures from the fish shops at Taiwan

Eww, leggy fish are scary. The boyfriend would love it.

    Emaciated juvie discus

I picked up two 50 cent size discus yesterday after seeing an ad on Craigslist offering them up for free. The owner said the fish had not eaten in at least a week, but these fish are very emaciated, not very round, so who knows how long they've been suffering. The only food he'd tried to feed...

Do you keep Freshwater or Saltwater or both?

I am similar to dskidmore in that I have looked into SW many times but have not taken the plunge because of expense. I'm a bargain hunter but over the years though I have still spent many hundreds (thousands?) on my FW aquariums. That leaves me with 11 FW tanks that give me room to have to...

    I have an Algae problem.

In all the years I have kept fish I have so rarely had a problem with algae that I didn't understand what all the fuss was about. Then a heavily stocked and established tank that sits on my desk in front of a window suddenly broke out in a huuuge algae bloom. It was everywhere. Not wanting to...

Question about south and african cichlids

I didn't say it was necessarily ideal. However I kept 4 labs with 2 angels together for a few months. Everybody behaved as usual. The labs were hanging around the bottom of the tank like they always did and the angels swam about the top as they always did. I fed veggie flake and bloodworms...

Question about south and african cichlids

I think the lab is too mild mannered for those fish. However, aside from temperament I don't see what the big deal is about mixing fish. Most people do not seem to keep strict biotopes anyhow. If you're not altering the water chemistry and the fish are all used to that then you're not going...

All this lighting stuff confuses me so. I need somebody to write Aquatic Plants for Dummies :P

    Lighting & CO2

Is there a good graph or reference of some kind that will clue me in on the wpg equivalents between different bulbs? I don't understand the incandescent, fluorescent, power compact fluorescent, halide, differences really....

    Desktop Aquariums

I keep Endler's in a 5g and they do breed like crazy too. Other things I would suggest are cherry shrimp, a killi pair, or even Neolamprologus multifasciatus.

    Eeeewwww!

ROFL, since when is Seattle the Midwest? These sodas are common knowledge around here. Though I don't know anybody who buys or drinks the nasty flavors. Some of the other flavors are tasty.

For those of you with snails

I read that the shells of MTS's are so hard that they have been known to break a puffers beak. If that's true, it makes me worry for my loaches...

    We've moved....Again!

I feel sorry for you. I hate moving a few miles away! If you need any help just stop off in Issaquah on your way :) I used to live just outside of Portland myself. And my brother lived in Vancouver briefly so I'm vaguely familiar with it. I sure hope you like rain and gray... :P

    The guilt is overwhelming!!!

I think you mean meat, dairy, and eggs. So vegetarians are fine :) I was a vegetarian for 8 years. I grew up around ranchers, and my grandparents had a cattle ranch for 40 years. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If you and others stopped eating meat the demand, and thus profit would...

    DIY plant weights?

Does anybody have any ideas for DIY plant anchors? I don't feel like going out to buy something, but am also short on brilliant solutions ATM. Thanks :)

    Puntius denisonii

I have seen that some people are keeping Puntius denisonii (Denison barb, Roseline Shark). They're new to my area within the last couple of years from what I've seen. And they're spendy! What are you all paying for them? And are you getting them locally?

Best Heater For A 10 Gallon?

Tule = Toile? I use panty hose rubberbanded over my filter uptake. That could work too. I understand that you want to save fish. But since there are so many fish to be saved and only one you, maybe it would be better to wait until you have a tank setup. With only 1 fish I imagine you'd be...

    Lots of sick goldfish

I agree with Zagz 100%. That's a tough thing if tank space is limited. Though when dealing with large quantities of fish it has to be something a fish/pet store has likely seen before and is prepared for, no?

    New Job!!! Now what!?

Congratulations! I've never moved a tank more than about 20 miles so I can't be of help. Even then I had a mini cycle in one tank that had the media safely in it's canister filter. I'm hopeless I guess.
