Recently vacated 55gal: Help me with a community set-up.

Grumbo is gone, but in a bigger tank; so the updates are probably done.

Recently vacated 55gal: Help me with a community set-up.

Wow. Great advice from all. Rams are something else I was looking into. Is that a type of fish that does better with 5-6, is a pair preferred, or should they be alone?

Recently vacated 55gal: Help me with a community set-up.

I recently moved my oscar to a friend's much larger tank, and now I have a 55 gallon ready for something new. Having only had the oscar, I'm looking forward to some variety (as well as finally being able to decorate without fear of everything being ripped out). I would love a community, and...

Another 10 gallon start-up topic? Indulge me please.

I've been dealing with a lone oscar in a 75 for almost 3 years now, and I love it, but now I'm looking to branch into a community type of thing. A friend of mine fizzled out on trying to maintain a 10-gal; all his fish died, and I basically have some free equipment now. While I'm ashamed to...

Looking for subjective answers: How to start a 10 Gallon?

Thank you very much. And thanks for all the help, but I did some budgeting, and it'll probably be a while before I get another tank.

Lecturing me on cycling. Psha! I'm so insulted. JK, but thanks for the concern. EDIT: Also, here's a picture of my oscar most-recent. http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/7787/grumboat75inchespose6ur.jpg

Looking for subjective answers: How to start a 10 Gallon?

Wow, great replies. This is something exciting for me because I'm just so used to one big guy in the tank. I've never known much about plants or lighting at all. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure what to feed small fish. I'm used feeding golfball-sized pellets. ((EDIT: In fact, I'm going...

Looking for subjective answers: How to start a 10 Gallon?

It's been quite a while since I've been on this board. I've had a 55 gallon with an oscar for nearly 2 years now. I love it, but the setup limits me in some key ways: A: I can't decorate, outside of rocks, because Grumbo will lay waist to anything I toss in there. B: I'm at full capacity...

Discus and angels in the same tank???

Most likely, I imagine it's because they were babies. Heh, don't want to use LFS tanks to figure out tank set-ups (e.g. 50 bajillion oscars in a 10gal).

    oscar

Pretty much what he said. One thing to remember is that while oscars are aggressive in the spectrum of all fish, they are pretty mild compared to some of the larger cichlids. If you get another cichlid of comparable size, try to get one that's always going to be smaller than your O, and make...

    Moving Suggestions

Liquidphyre's right. Don't go insane trying to keep all the water. It's prefered to not completely change your fish's water at once, of course; but the beneficial bacteria isn't in the water mainly. It's on the filter media and other surfaces in the tank.

Anyone had success with online livestock retailers?

Hi. I'm just about to have my 50 gal. free for restocking, and I was thinking I'd get some real plants, and 3-4 fancy goldfish. The town I live in, however, has a very small selection in both type and color. I was considering going online, but I've always been curious about the risks...

    Aquarium and TVs

When I came into this topic, I though you were going to ask about turning an old TV into an aquarium.... I think you should do that btw, hehe.

    80 gallon octagon tank

You're right. I don't think what I mentioned was all-inclusive. I was thinking of guarmi's (sp?), and a couple other tiny ones when I said it. Arowana's too, but that's probably too big to be in the tank even by itself I'd wager.

    Help Me With Everything!

First off, I don't know your experience with tanks, but if this is your first, hats-off for going about it the right way. :) These guys have all the right idea about equipment, but I'd just like to say (in case you weren't sure already) if you're holding off learning about Cycling, just make...

    80 gallon octagon tank

This is a very lay-person answer to the 'swim position of the fish' question, but it's often reliable to correlate the position of the fishes mouth with its swimming preference. If it looks like it has an overbite, and the mouth points up, it will likely spend more time around the surface...

what food to buy during vacation leave?

It's been a while since I've been in the advice game, so correct me if I'm wrong. I've heard (and been give good reason to believe) that those long-lasting food clumps are terrible for water quality. The rule of thumb is that under feeding is preferable to over-feeding, especially when...

    fish and music....

I always thought my Oscar had a rastafarian look going, so he and I frequently jam out to Bob Marley.
