Pretty much what he said. One thing to remember is that while oscars are aggressive in the spectrum of all fish, they are pretty mild compared to some of the larger cichlids. If you get another cichlid of comparable size, try to get one that's always going to be smaller than your O, and make...

Liquidphyre's right. Don't go insane trying to keep all the water. It's prefered to not completely change your fish's water at once, of course; but the beneficial bacteria isn't in the water mainly. It's on the filter media and other surfaces in the tank.
