yea they do that alot..its like a mating dance or playing . all my cories do it from time to time . i have like 30 pandas and in the mornings when i wake up i find them dancing ( what i call it ) .

i dunno i wouldnt trust it unless i saw the wood was completely dried out , and then only a hardwood like oak and such . but if your saying it has mucous stuff on it i would take it out its probably leeching out sap . i knew a guy that put a wood in his tank and it got like a whitish gel...

i think he was refering to black diamond blasting sand that people use as a substrate which is cheap and looks very good , but not for diggers like cories cause it has sharp edges ( hence blasting sand ) to the OP...colorquartz is good option...

if you only have swords or root feeding plants then all you really need is root tabs, you dont really need to dose the water column until you get stem plants that take nutrients from the water column. root tabs and co2 dosing will be enough for the swords
