    Plants/Fish and hard water

No, I'm wrong about the Algae Eater. (He said there was an Algae Eater but I haven't seen it yet.) It's a Yoyo Loach. It should be kept in a group like the Clowns, but there is only one, and it's freaking out at the moment, swimming around the tank like it lost it's mind. I fed them so I...

    Plants/Fish and hard water

Fish/Plants Thanks for the site. It's a Synodontis nigrita . As I said, it looks like a giant Upside Down cat. I had 2 but lost one to Ick. They never hung out together. They preferred opposite ends of the tank until one got sick. Then they were inseparable. My son just brought home yesterday...

Fish/Plants Talk to me..... What plants????? I have gourami and neons. Your have rainbows with that? What did you mix and match with? Half those fish I never even heard of. I have a cat fish that no one can ID. Its on my phone and I can't transfer it. I thought it was a polka dot cat but...

    Plants/Fish and hard water

Believe it or not, I had an Af. Cichlid tank - for many years. I had this 125 gal. tank since around 2006. I started with the Cichlids and lots of rock. Pleco and the Red Tailed Botia was from a previous 65 hex. (Do they really live that long?) I just couldn't get rid of the Botia so he and...

    Plants/Fish and hard water

As I mentioned in the past, I switched over my 125 gal. tank from well water to spring water. My well water is extremely hard and greatly limited my choice of fish let alone growing any type of plant. I want a planted aquarium. Nothing grows in my well water except maybe pond plants and algae...

Very sick Placo, very sick tank

    1. Need your water change schedule 2. What kind of test kit do you use? 3. Current water parameters? 3. What is your current stock? 4. What kind of filtration? Most of these questions I already answered except for # 1 and 2. #1. I don't do water changes. I add spring water - or well water in...

Very sick Placo, very sick tank

I neglected to say that I started out with well water that had hardness off the scale. It killed my plants and most of my fish. That is the reason I switched to spring water after I got rid of the Black Beard Fungus.

Very sick Placo, very sick tank

The only fish that survived in that 10 gal. tank was the cat fish.

Very sick Placo, very sick tank

Yes, I treated the scaleless fish twice in the 10 gal tank, then added them back into the 125 gal. when I saw the lg. tank was infected as well. When I cleaned the tank of Black Beard fungus I had all fish in the 10 gal. tank. All remained healthy and when put back in the 125 gal remained so for...

Very sick Placo, very sick tank

My 12 in. Placo is covered in fungus and has stopped eating. Even the eyes are hazed. (All bottom feeders stopped eating) Let me start from the beginning. Last month my 125 gal. tank was coated in Black Beard fungus. All plants were dead and even my rocks and plastic flow tubes of my...

    Placos and plants

Can a very large Placo and a heavily planted tank work out? I have a 125 gal. tank and hate to get rid of my old friend just for the sake of a make over .

well water and a planted tank

Thank you all. We are talking about a 125 gal. tank with the addition of ~6 gal every 3 days to maintain the water levels in my Marineland Tidepool filter system. The main expense would be the cost of the spring water delivery to switch over my tank. Mixing in some well water when I add every...

well water and a planted tank

I have well water and it's so hard it can't be measured. I can't grow plants and am very limited on the type of fish I can have, not even guppies. Is spring water a healthy alternative to my poor fish swimming around in water that is a few steps away from cement?

    Costia?

I have a 125 gallon tank with Barbs, Guppies, Tetras, Botias, Glass Cats, and Gouramies. It's the Gouramies that seem to be affected by a skin condition that appears as a large discolored area or areas behind the gills on the back. From what I've read I'm thinking Costia. I will euthanize the 3...

Anchors huh? OK, I'll try them since I can't seem to retrain my Plecostomus:)

Best filter system for a 125 gallon tank

I have had it with my Marineland Double Tide Pool Bio-Wheel filtration system. After doing my once a week 50% water change, I can't get the system to start again. At the moment it is running on 2 power heads. I can no longer get replacement parts as well. I need an overflow control rod assembly...

    My plants are floating!!

BTW, I am using the Macro-Micro you suggested. Just to make sure I'm doing things right, I am using 12.5 ml of each to the tank every morning and turning on the lights ~1 hour after. Now, how many hours do I leave the lights on? I just have the regular aquarium lighting for a 125 gal. tank...

    My plants are floating!!

I had a beautiful heavily planted 125 gallon tank that my son set up for me, but he used unrooted plants and my very large Plecostomus is now digging up my plants. I need to get the soil potted-type plants and just sink them into the sand, making it more difficult for him/her to uproot...

    Excel amt with water change

You guys are awesome! I'm going with the total tank for now. I'll call Monday and see what they tell me. This could prove very interesting:0) I have well water and chlorine isn't really an issue, but nitrites is. I don't do water changes as I should. 50% water change once a week seems extreme...

    Excel amt with water change

Foster told me that I need Excel measured out to 1 ml to every 10 gallons, or 12.5 ml to my 125 gal. tank. Now, if I do a ~50% water change do I put the Excel amt = to what I replaced or = to my total tank capacity? I'm afraid of overdosing. :thanks:

    Newly planted community tank

It is a sump system, in fact, there are 2 sumps connected to 1 pump. Its called a Tidepool 2. Doesn't anyone use a sump system other than Marineland?
